Long-Term Hearing Loss after Acute Acoustic Trauma in  the French Military: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the prevalence of long-term hearing impairment after AAT in the French military. The findings emphasize the importance of preventive measures, including proper use of hearing protection devices, and the need for timely diagnosis and treatment. Further research is warranted to explore gender susceptibility to AAT and evaluate the impact of different weapons on AAT characteristics. The study also underscores the potential benefits of higher doses of corticosteroid therapy in reducing the risk of long-term hearing impairment. Overall, the findings contribute to a better understanding of AAT ...

Battlefield Acupuncture as a Treatment Option for  Chronic Tinnitus: A Pilot Study
CONCLUSIONS: Findings from eight chronic tinnitus sufferers who received two BFA treatment sessions are reported here, suggesting at least short-term treatment benefits observed as reductions in tinnitus-related psychological distress and impact. Although these findings are constrained by the study's small sample size and limited treatment period, its findings underscore the need for further research to determine the potential benefits of BFA for individuals who suffer from chronic tinnitus. Future research should consider the possibility of more lasting benefits through extended BFA treatment, with a comparison of BFA tre...

Self-Reported Symptoms in U.S. Marines Following Blast- and Impact-Related Concussion
CONCLUSIONS: These findings support recent research suggesting that the mechanism of injury may play an important role in symptom reporting and/or physiological changes to the brain after concussion. The results of this epidemiological investigation should be used to guide further research on the physiological effects of concussion, diagnostic criteria for neurological injuries, and treatment modalities for various concussion-related symptoms.PMID:36794787 | DOI:10.1093/milmed/usad026

Single-fraction stereotactic radiosurgery versus microsurgical resection for the treatment of vestibular schwannoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsOur systematic review indicates that sfSRS has greater benefits than MR in patients with unilateral vestibular schwannoma. However, it is unclear whether this conclusion still holds after 2 years, as long-term studies are lacking. It is also unclear whether the effects of sfSRS are similar in patients with bilateral vestibular schwannomas. Long-term prospective studies including patients with this condition would therefore be useful.Systematic review registrationThe full (German language) protocol and report (Commission No. N20-03) are available on the institute ’s website:www.iqwig.de/en/projects/n20-03.html
