Long-Term Hearing Loss after Acute Acoustic Trauma in  the French Military: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the prevalence of long-term hearing impairment after AAT in the French military. The findings emphasize the importance of preventive measures, including proper use of hearing protection devices, and the need for timely diagnosis and treatment. Further research is warranted to explore gender susceptibility to AAT and evaluate the impact of different weapons on AAT characteristics. The study also underscores the potential benefits of higher doses of corticosteroid therapy in reducing the risk of long-term hearing impairment. Overall, the findings contribute to a better understanding of AAT ...

Oral Corticosteroids for Teprotumumab-Related Hearing Loss: A Case Report
Teprotumumab is a novel insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor inhibitor approved for the treatment of thyroid eye disease, but growing reports of hearing loss require further investigation. To date, an effective protocol for managing hearing loss in this setting has not been determined. Here, we present the first report of the resolution of teprotumumab-related hearing loss with prompt oral prednisone. A 70-year-old woman on teprotumumab experienced sudden hearing loss and tinnitus after her first infusion. An audiogram demonstrated a mild down-sloping to moderately severe mixed conductive and sensorineural hearing loss th...

Bilateral Longitudinally Extensive Optic Perineuritis Post ‐COVID‐19 Presenting as “Idiopathic” Intracranial Hypertension: A Case Report
ConclusionThere is a growing association between demyelinating disorders and COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination, it is essential to recognize CSF abnormalities that are incompatible with a diagnosis of IIH, such as increased protein in our case, and may lead to an incorrect diagnosis. This article is protected by copyright. Intratympanic corticosteroids for M énière's disease
CONCLUSIONS: The evidence for intratympanic corticosteroids in the treatment of Ménière's disease is uncertain. There are relatively few published RCTs, which all consider the same type of corticosteroid (dexamethasone). We also have concerns about publication bias in this area, with the identification of two large RCTs that remain unpublished. The evidence comparing intratympanic corticosteroids to placebo or no treatment is therefore all low- or very low-certainty. This means that we have very low confidence that the effects reported are accurate estimates of the true effect of these interventions. Consensus on the app...

Systemic pharmacological interventions for M énière's disease
CONCLUSIONS: The evidence for systemic pharmacological interventions for Ménière's disease is very uncertain. There are few RCTs that compare these interventions to placebo or no treatment, and the evidence that is currently available from these studies is of low or very low certainty. This means that we have very low confidence that the effects reported are accurate estimates of the true effect of these interventions. Consensus on the appropriate outcomes to measure in studies of Ménière's disease is needed (i.e. a core outcome set) in order to guide future studies in this area and enable meta-analyses of the results....

Vestibular Schwannoma Presenting as Acute Vertigo Mimicking Vestibular Neuritis
We report a case of VS presenting as left vestibular neuritis (VN) in a previously healthy 57-year-old patient. Right-beating horizontal-torsional spontaneous nystagmus was observed, and the bedside head impulse test revealed a left catch-up saccade. The bithermal caloric test showed left canal paresis, and pure-tone audiometry revealed an average threshold of 22.5 dB bilaterally. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated a 0.7-cm enhancing mass in the left internal auditory canal, consistent with VS. The patient was administered with high-dose systemic corticosteroids and vestibular suppressants with antiemetic,...

Bilateral Conjunctivitis, Keratitis, and Anterior Uveitis in a Patient Co-infected with Parvovirus B19 and SARS-CoV-2
We report on a case of bilateral conjunctivitis, keratitis, and anterior uveitis that occurred in a patient co-infected by B19V and SARS-CoV-2. A young nurse developed, 20 days after the onset of asthenia and fever, a maculopapular rash and, in the following month, B19V-related arthritis. Shortly after a course of antibiotics and corticosteroids and the resolution of the arthritis, she began to complain of hearing loss and tinnitus. A polymerase chain reaction for SARS-CoV-2, previously negative, turned out positive; IgM for B19V decreased while IgG increased and antinuclear autoantibody and rheumatoid factor test results ...

Efficacy and safety of systemic, high-dose glucocorticoid therapy for idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss : Study protocol for a  three-armed, randomized, triple-blind, multicenter trial (HODOKORT)
DISCUSSION: There is an unmet medical need for an effective medical therapy of ISSHL. Although sensorineural hearing impairment can be partially compensated by hearing aids or cochlear implants (CI), generic hearing is better than using hearing aids or CIs. Since adverse effects of a short course of high-dose systemic corticosteroids have not been documented with good evidence, the trial will improve knowledge on possible side effects in the different treatment arms with a focus on hyperglycemia and hypertension.TRIAL REGISTRATION: EudraCT (European Union Drug Regulating Authorities Clinical Trials Database) Nr. 2015-00260...

Where are the vesicles? A case report of Ramsay Hunt syndrome
Malays Fam Physician. 2022 Mar 21;17(1):90-93. doi: 10.51866/cr1351. eCollection 2022 Mar 28.ABSTRACTA 1-year-10-month-old child developed left-sided Ramsay Hunt syndrome (RHS) without vesicles 1 month after an episode of varicella zoster infection. No ear symptoms, including hearing loss, tinnitus, or imbalance, were reported. The external ear and otoscopic examinations were unremarkable. He achieved adequate recovery with corticosteroid treatment. This case report discusses the unusual presentation of RHS without vesicles, the diagnostic dilemma in young children, varicella zoster virus hepatitis, treatment modalities, a...

Characteristics, Upon Presentation, of a Cohort of Patients with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease in Puerto Rico
CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that in Puerto Rico, patients with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease may have a distinctive prevalence of characteristics at the presentation when compared to other ethnic groups, including other Hispanic cohorts.PMID:35077075
