Why You Should Be Cautious Of Using Acrylic Nails
Acrylic nails have been around for ages. Whether you sat down for the lengthy process to look picture perfect for your prom or to flaunt the perfect mani in a wedding party, these artificial nail enhancements are a rite of passage for so many women.  "Good-looking" nails aside, nail artist and industry expert Jessica Washick believes a lot of individuals still wear acrylics because they provide "a quick fix to achieve a temporary nail goal." This may include increasing strength, adding length or repairing splits or gaps. But at what cost to the overall health and condition of your nails? We asked Washick and boar...

Gov. Baker Signs Bill Barring Teens From Tanning Salons
BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts law now bans anyone under 18 from using tanning beds. Gov. Charlie Baker signed the bill on Friday, saying it will help reduce the risk of skin cancer among minors. Supporters, including dermatologists, say there’s a sharp rise in the number of young people diagnosed with melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Doctors believe the rise is linked to the increased use of sunbeds, which became popular in the 1970s. Salon owners say tanning beds are safe if used responsibly. Massachusetts law previously allowed teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17 to visit tanning salons with consent...

Your True Nature -- Perfectly Imperfect
One afternoon, about seven years ago I was driving with my boyfriend at the time to LAX airport. And I'll never forget that moment when he turned to me with wide puppy-dog-like-eyes and said in awe: "You're perfect!" It was as though the world stopped for a minute and I thought to myself, "wow, finally, someone gets me. I've arrived!" I smiled a huge smile and the words that came out of my mouth were, "I'm sorry but you're going to be disappointed, I'm perfectly imperfect." For a while this man couldn't see my flaws at all. I could see his but I loved all of them. It was the first time I loved someone's flaws and it was li...

Yes, Chemicals In Nail Polish Can Leach Into Your Body
Everybody knows there are dangerous-sounding chemicals in nail polish, but many of us think our limited contact with wet polish is too minimal to cause much risk. After all, we're not drinking it!  But new research may chip away at your worry-free tradition of weekly mani-pedis: A study led by Duke University and the public health advocacy organization Environmental Working Group suggests that we absorb at least one potentially hormone-disrupting chemical every time we get a polish. While the impact of this chemical on our health is still unclear, the fact that our body can absorb chemicals through nail polish is caus...
