Still experiencing post hysterectomy fatigue – Alison ’ s story
I am now 7 months 2 weeks after my hysterectomy and still experiencing debilitating post hysterectomy fatigue. I had an emergency procedure and was not well enough to have it having had such severe bleeding, anaemia and admissions for blood transfusions in the weeks preceding. I was kept in hospital again on a third trip to A and E to stabilise a very high temperature and to have a hysteroscopy after a few days of being monitored. I had been given Gonadotropin on my previous visit to hospital a week before and we were all waiting for this to take effect (to stop the bleeding) in order to have a hysterectomy in a couple of ...

House members introduce companion medical device tax repeal bill
A quartet of U.S. representatives today introduced a companion bill to a Senate measure that would do away with the medical device tax altogether. The 2.3% levy on U.S. medical device sales went into effect in 2013 but was only in place for two years before Congress put a moratorium in place. When that ended in January 2018, a second moratorium was enacted that’s due to expire at the end of this year. In 2018, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to repeal the tax 283-132, but the Senate failed to act. Last month Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Penn.) r...

Pat Toomey (R-Penn.) has signed on to co-sponsor, replacing Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), who did not run for re-election last fall. The medical device tax went into effect in 2013 and has been suspended twice. One two-year pause ended in January 2018 and the second moratorium is due to expire at the end of 2019. The tax on the sale of most medical technologies was enacted as part of the Affordable Care Act and applies to medtech c...

Bio-Rad whistleblower case heads back to court on appeal
A federal appeals court panel dealt the former general counsel for Bio-Rad Laboratories (NYSE:BIO) a blow, slicing his $11 million jury award by $6 million and sending his whistleblower retaliation lawsuit back to U.S. District Court for a possible new trial. The three-judge panel sitting in San Francisco ruled that the U.S. District Court judge in the January 2017 trial had improperly instructed the jury that parts of the Federal Corrupt Practices Act  (FCPA) are rules or regulations of the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC). That jury had also found that a February 2013 internal report, in which general counsel...
