Comparison of a 3D heads-up display system with a conventional surgical microscopy for minimally invasive glaucoma surgery on an artificial eye model
CONCLUSIONS: The 3D HUDS was favoured over conventional microscopy for the performance of simulated MIGS by ophthalmologists with varying levels of experience. The survey results suggest that the 3D HUDS in an artificial eye model is useful for teaching minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, particularly with the advent of competency-based ophthalmology education programs.PMID:37369358 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2023.06.003

A generalizable deep learning regression model for automated glaucoma screening from fundus images
In this study, we confirm that a previously described regression network for glaucoma referral (G-RISK) obtains excellent results in a variety of challenging settings. Thirteen different data sources of labeled fundus images were utilized. The data sources include two large population cohorts (Australian Blue Mountains Eye Study, BMES and German Gutenberg Health Study, GHS) and 11 publicly available datasets (AIROGS, ORIGA, REFUGE1, LAG, ODIR, REFUGE2, GAMMA, RIM-ONEr3, RIM-ONE DL, ACRIMA, PAPILA). To minimize data shifts in input data, a standardized image processing strategy was developed to obtain 30° disc-centered ima...

APSified OCT-angiography analysis: Macula vessel density in healthy eyes during office hours
ConclusionOverall mean macula VD, subfoveal CT and AL tended not to show statistically significant changes over time in this cohort, whereas a regional analysis of VD did. Therefore, a circadian influence on capillary microcirculation should be kept in mind. Moreover, the results highlight the importance of a more detailed analysis of VD in different sectors and different vascular layers. In addition, the pattern of diurnal variation could vary inter-individually, thus a patient-specific fluctuation pattern would need to be considered when evaluating these parameters in clinical practice.

Analysis of the influence of corneal properties and densitometry on applanation and rebound tonometry in primary open angle glaucoma
CONCLUSION: Corneal densitometry did not show significant differences between glaucoma severity groups. A positive correlation was seen with CCT and both corneal densitometry and age. No correlation was found with keratometry or severity of glaucoma. The influence of corneal densitometry on IOP measurements appears weak, with little clinical relevance identified.PMID:36739259 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2022.08.013

Long-term success after trabeculectomy in open-angle glaucoma: results of a retrospective cohort study
Conclusions The results demonstrate a high and stable success rate of TE after a mean follow-up time of approximately 6 years, that is, not affected by later cataract surgery.

Comparison of anterior segment parameters in myopia with and without primary open-angle glaucoma
ConclusionGlaucomatous damage in myopic patients with POAG was associated with comparatively small anterior chamber angle, shallow anterior chamber depth, flat cornea curvature, and thin cornea.

Effectiveness and safety of VISULAS ® green selective laser trabeculoplasty: a prospective, interventional multicenter clinical investigation
ConclusionsSLT performed with the VISULAS® green laser achieved clinically significant additional IOP reductions in medically treated as well as in treatment na ïve eyes with POAG and there were no relevant safety issues. The results are comparable to other reported SLT studies.

Clinical usefulness of layer-by-layer deviation maps of Spectralis OCT: comparison with Cirrus OCT
CONCLUSIONS: The Spectralis and Cirrus OCT deviation maps showed good diagnostic abilities except for the IPL layer of Spectralis. In the clinical setting, both Spectralis and Cirrus OCT can be useful for detection of RNFL defects in PPG and EG eyes.PMID:36002236 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2022-321054

The medication adherence among glaucoma patients during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic in Croatia
CONCLUSIONS: Non-adherence to treatment was prevalent among patients with POAG during the COVID-19 pandemic in Zagreb, Croatia. Personal beliefs and attitudes towards treatment, family support, and patient-healthcare provider relationship were significant predictors of adherence. Special consideration should be given to the whole health system-level strategies targeting the adherence to treatment, especially in crises, in order to achieve positive therapeutic outcomes. The study protocol was registered in the DRKS - German Clinical Trials Register, DRKS-ID: DRKS00022081.PMID:35791501 | DOI:10.1177/11206721221112150
