Development of mucoadhesive Timolol loaded chitosan-nanocomposite to treat glaucoma
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 14:126917. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126917. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTimolol Maleate is an aqueous soluble β-blocker antiglaucoma drug used to suppress intraocular pressure. Several commercially available ocular formulations are not effective in delivering to the target site due to their water-soluble property and low mucoadhesiveness. Hence, there is a requirement for a highly mucoadhesive drug-loaded nanocomposite to suppress intraocular pressure with enhanced bioavailability. Herein, we have prepared a mucoadhesive Timolol-loaded graphene quantum dot-chitosan-nanocomposite to trea...

Randomized Multicenter Clinical Trial Comparing 0.1% Brimonidine/0.5% Timolol Versus 1% Dorzolamide/0.5% Timolol as Adjuncts to Prostaglandin Analogues: Aibeta Crossover Study
ConclusionAs BTFC offered better tolerability than DTFC with comparable reduction in IOP, we recommend it as an alternative for patients who experience ocular discomfort with DTFC-prostaglandin analogue combination therapy.Trial Registration NumberjRCTs051190125.

Evaluation of antiglaucoma drug treatment awareness and patient-reported medication adherence: Determinants of glaucoma management
Conclusion: POAG patients did have adequate treatment awareness with good self-reported medication adherence and performance of eye drop instillation technique. Around 25% patients lacked awareness; hence, reinforcement education programs on medication regimens need to be implemented.

Effects of Ripasudil, a Rho-Kinase Inhibitor, on Scar Formation in a Mouse Model of Filtration Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that ripasudil, ROCK inhibitor may inhibit excessive fibrosis after glaucoma filtering surgery vis inhibition the transdifferentiation of tenon fibroblast into myofibroblast and may have a potential effect as anti-scarring for glaucoma filtration surgery.PMID:37216470 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2023.2217367

Hot-melt extruded in situ gelling systems (MeltDrops Technology): Formulation development, in silico modelling and in vivo studies
In this study, we demonstrate novel application of hot-melt extrusion (HME) technology for continuous manufacturing of ISGS (MeltDrops Technology). Timolol maleate (TIM) and dorzolamide hydrochloride (DRZ) loaded MeltDrops were successfully developed using HME for glaucoma management, thereby resolving issues with batch manufacturing of ISGS, prolonging retention time thus improving bioavailability. The MeltDrops technology involves one-step, i.e., passing all the ingredients through an extruder at a screw speed between 20-50 rpm and barrel temperature of 80 °C. The comparative evaluation of MeltDrops and batch-processed ...

Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma Progression in Glaucoma Patients with Unchanged Topical Treatment over 3 Years - Retrospective Observational Cohort Analysis
CONCLUSION: Both groups had comparable baseline, as well as mean overall IOP. However, the course of IOP levels over time was different in the two groups, showing earlier and more pronounced long-term drift in the prostaglandin analog-treated group. RNFL thickness was comparable at baseline, however, RNFL thinning over time was more pronounced in the prostaglandin analog-treated group. There were no statistical differences between the groups in terms of VF MD at baseline and over time.PMID:37164404 | DOI:10.1055/a-2004-4943
