Comparison of a 3D heads-up display system with a conventional surgical microscopy for minimally invasive glaucoma surgery on an artificial eye model
CONCLUSIONS: The 3D HUDS was favoured over conventional microscopy for the performance of simulated MIGS by ophthalmologists with varying levels of experience. The survey results suggest that the 3D HUDS in an artificial eye model is useful for teaching minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, particularly with the advent of competency-based ophthalmology education programs.PMID:37369358 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2023.06.003

EyeCNN: exploring the potential of convolutional neural networks for identification of multiple eye diseases through retinal imagery
ConclusionThe use of EyeCNN for classifying eye diseases has the potential to aid ophthalmologists in diagnosing conditions accurately and efficiently. This research may also lead to a deeper understanding of these diseases and it may lead to new treatments. The webserver of EyeCNN can be accessed at (https://abdulrafay97-eyecnn-app-rd9wgz.streamlit.app/).

Reliability of Ahmed glaucoma valve surgical videos for educational purposes
ConclusionsThe objective analysis showed that the video quality ranged from good to excellent. AGV implantation videos were sparse on exclusive ophthalmology surgical video portals. Therefore, more peer-reviewed videos following standardized rubric are needed on open-access surgical video platforms.

ChatGPT and Ophthalmology: Exploring Its Potential with Discharge Summaries and Operative Notes
CONCLUSION: The performance of ChatGPT in the context of ophthalmic discharge summaries and operative notes was encouraging. These are constructed rapidly in a matter of seconds. Focused training of ChatGPT on these issues with inclusion of a human verification step has an enormous potential to impact healthcare positively.PMID:37133418 | DOI:10.1080/08820538.2023.2209166

Practice of immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery (ISBCS): A teaching hospital experience in United Kingdom
CONCLUSIONS: Our experience which included a cohort of high-risk patients showed safe and successful practice of ISBCS without having a negative impact on training.PMID:36734082 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231154609

Dual Consistency Enabled Weakly and Semi-Supervised Optic Disc and Cup Segmentation With Dual Adaptive Graph Convolutional Networks
Glaucoma is a progressive eye disease that results in permanent vision loss, and the vertical cup to disc ratio (vCDR) in colour fundus images is essential in glaucoma screening and assessment. Previous fully supervised convolution neural networks segment the optic disc (OD) and optic cup (OC) from color fundus images and then calculate the vCDR offline. However, they rely on a large set of labeled masks for training, which is expensive and time-consuming to acquire. To address this, we propose a weakly and semi-supervised graph-based network that investigates geometric associations and domain knowledge between segmentatio...

IMPULSE Study: Impact of COVID-19 in the present of ophthalmology focusing on ocular surface and future trends
CONCLUSIONS: During the pandemic, an increase in the incidence of certain ocular surface diseases has been perceived. The telematic follow-up of chronic or mild pathologies of the ocular surface entails the need to provide specific training for both the patient and the healthcare professional, in addition to screening and referral protocols that would optimize the flow of care.PMID:36713825 | PMC:PMC9870759 | DOI:10.1016/j.oftal.2023.01.004
