Analyses of Dupilumab-Related Ocular Adverse Drug Reactions Using the WHO's VigiBase
CONCLUSIONS: Dupilumab-related ADRs included an increase or decrease of various ocular disorders. The results indicate that dupilumab also has potential therapeutic effects.PMID:37358706 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-023-02573-3

The role of the retinal nerve fiber layer thickness on OCT in the evaluation of papillitis in childhood uveitis
Pediatric uveitis is an inflammatory intraocular disease that can follow a severe course and can have vision-threatening complications.1 –3 Approximately 4% of children with uveitis develop legal blindness, defined by the World Health Organization as Snellen visual acuity of 3/60 or worse.4–6 The most common and best-studied ocular complications due to uveitis include cataracts, cystoid macular edema (CME), and secondary glaucoma , which occur in approximately 45%, 38%, and 25% of patients, respectively1,2,7–9; these complications develop due to intraocular inflammation, but can also occur due to the long-term effect...

A Scoping Review of Patients' Barriers to Eye Care for Glaucoma and Keratitis
In this scoping review, we examine underlying causes of loss to follow-up for chronic (glaucoma) and acute (corneal ulcers) eye conditions using the Penchansky and Thomas access to care framework. We explore barriers by World Health Organization income levels and by study geographical location. We identified 6363 abstracts, with 75 articles retrieved and 16 meeting inclusion criteria. One article discussed barriers to follow-up care for people with corneal ulcers and the other 15 were for people with glaucoma.

Lens extraction versus laser peripheral iridotomy for acute primary angle closure
CONCLUSIONS: Low certainty evidence suggests that early lens extraction may produce more favorable outcomes compared to initial LPI in terms of IOP control. Evidence for other outcomes is less clear. Future high-quality and longer-term studies evaluating the effects of either intervention on the development of glaucomatous damage and visual field changes as well as health-related quality of life measures would be helpful.PMID:36884304 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD015116.pub2

TMCO1 expression promotes cell proliferation and induces epithelial –mesenchymal transformation in human gliomas
This study demonstrated that TMCO1 was upregulated in gliomas and its overexpression predicted poor prognosis. We also revealed that the expression of TMCO1 was associated with the World Health Organization (WHO) grade of gliomas. Knockdown of TMCO1 inhibited the proliferation and induced apoptosis of U87 and U251 cells. In addition, TMCO1 induced GBM cell migration and invasion by promoting epithelial –mesenchymal transition (EMT). These date collectively proved the crucial role of TMCO1 as a novel prognostic factor and underlying therapeutic target for glioma patients.

Prevalence, Causes, and Risk Factors of Visual Impairment in Emiratis and Non-Emiratis of Dubai: A Subnational Population-Based Cross-Sectional Survey
CONCLUSIONS: Prevalence of VI is comparably low with leading causes readily treatable. An effective strategy to improve spectacle correction and cataract services would reduce the VI burden.PMID:35535048 | PMC:PMC9078847 | DOI:10.1155/2022/9726230

IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 1714: Association Between PM2.5 Exposure Level and Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma in Taiwanese Adults: A Nested Case –Control Study
In this study, PM2.5 was an independent factor associated with open-angle glaucoma. Further research is required to better understand the mechanisms connecting PM2.5 and open-angle glaucoma.

Surgical interventions for primary congenital glaucoma.
CONCLUSIONS: The evidence suggests that there may be little to no evidence of difference between CTT and routine conventional trabeculotomy, or between viscotrabeculotomy and routine conventional trabeculotomy. A 360-degree circumferential trabeculotomy may show greater surgical success than conventional trabeculotomy. Considering the rarity of the disease, future research would benefit from a multicenter, possibly international trial, involving parents of children with PCG and with a follow-up of at least one year.
