Long-term Results of Ahmed Valve Implantation With Mitomycin-C in Pediatric Glaucoma
Conclusions: A significant proportion of patients achieved long-term IOP control without glaucoma medication. The majority achieved IOP control with additional topical antiglaucoma medications. When compared with existing AGV implantation in childhood literature, the use of MMC appears to lengthen the drop-free (complete success) duration, as well as the long-term IOP control with topical medications.

Slow Coagulation Transscleral Cyclophotocoagulation for Postvitrectomy Patients With Silicone Oil–induced Glaucoma
Precis: Slow coagulation transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (TSCPC) is an effective and safe glaucoma surgery in patients with medically uncontrolled silicone oil (SO)-induced glaucoma. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to report the outcomes of slow coagulation continuous wave TSCPC in patients with medically uncontrolled secondary glaucoma following pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and intravitreal SO injection. Patients and Methods: This retrospective study enrolled patients with medically uncontrolled glaucoma secondary to PPV with SO injection who underwent TSCPC using slow coagulation TSCPC settings...

Cost-analysis of Surgical Intraocular Pressure Management in Glaucoma
Conclusions: Conventional glaucoma surgeries and selective laser trabeculoplasty surgery were the most cost-efficient surgical methods to lower IOP compared with the various minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries options. They may be more appropriate management when cost is an important issue.

Association of Metabolic Syndrome With Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension in a Midwest United States Population
Conclusion: In Olmsted County, though metabolic syndrome was associated with ocular hypertension and higher intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma, the results were likely related to a thicker central corneal in this patient population.

Readability of Online Patient Education Materials for Glaucoma
This study aimed to assess the readability of online glaucoma patient education materials. Methods: Glaucoma was entered into the Google search engine, and the first 30 search results were assessed for readability using seven validated readability instruments. Scientific articles, forums, and dictionary entries were excluded. Single sample t tests were used to assess whether online glaucoma materials were written above the recommended seventh grade level. Results: Overall, glaucoma materials were written at a mean grade level of 10.33 (SD: 2.02). Across 6 grade level readability instruments, these patient edu...

Two-Year Outcomes of the Paul Glaucoma Implant for Treatment of Glaucoma
Purpose: To determine 2-year efficacy of the PAUL Glaucoma Implant (PGI), a novel glaucoma tube shunt in patients with advanced glaucoma. Participants: Patients with glaucoma refractory to maximum medical therapy or previous failed glaucoma surgery. Methods: Retrospective review of all patients who had underwent PGI implantation in a single tertiary institution between May 1, 2017 and March 30, 2021. Main Outcome Measures: Primary outcome measure was failure defined as intraocular pressure (IOP)>18 mm Hg or

Femtosecond Laser-assisted Cataract Surgery in Patients With Prior Glaucoma Surgery
Précis: Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) is a safe procedure in glaucomatous eyes with prior glaucoma surgery, evidenced by stable intraocular pressure (IOP) and medication use, acceptable success rate, disease stability, and low complication rates at 1-year postoperative. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the 1-year efficacy and safety of FLACS in glaucomatous eyes with prior glaucoma surgery. Materials and Methods: Retrospective case series of all consecutive glaucomatous eyes with previous glaucoma surgery that underwent FLACS using the Catalys Precision Laser System ...

Discrimination Between Healthy Eyes and Those With Mild Glaucoma Damage Using Hemoglobin Measurements of the Optic Nerve Head
Précis: The Laguna ONhE, a software that measures the hemoglobin (Hb) concentration of the optic nerve head (ONH) from fundus photographs, demonstrated good accuracy in discriminating healthy eyes from eyes with mild glaucoma. Purpose: The aim was to evaluate Hb concentration of the optic nerve to distinguish between healthy eyes and eyes with mild glaucoma. Methods: Eyes from patients with mild primary open angle glaucoma (MD> −6 dB) (n=58) and from healthy subjects (n=64) were selected. Retinal nerve fiber layer thickness measurements of all eyes were acquired with optical coherence tomography. Opt...

Transconjunctival XEN45 Implantation for Glaucoma Performed at the Slit Lamp: A Pilot Study
Conclusion: Slit-lamp-based transconjunctival XEN45 implantation reduced intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients in the first year of this pilot study and was most commonly associated with wound leak and hypotony among other adverse events.

Predicting Visual Field Progression by Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography and Pattern Electroretinography in Glaucoma
Précis: Reduced P50-N95 amplitude on pattern electroretinography (PERG) and the presence of microvasculature dropout (MvD) on optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) at baseline were significant factors associated with visual field (VF) progression in predominantly normal tension glaucoma (NTG) patients. Objective: We investigated the baseline demographics and ocular characteristics that predict future progression in glaucoma patients, including PERG and OCT-A parameters. Methods: One Hundred forty eyes with open angle glaucoma that were prospectively enrolled and followed up for at least 3 year...

Association Between Risk of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Glaucoma: The Singapore Epidemiology of Eye Diseases Study
Précis: In this population-based, cross-sectional study of Indian and Malay adults in Singapore aged 40 years or above, intermediate or high risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) was associated with 50% higher odds of having glaucoma. Background/Aims: The relationship between OSA and glaucoma is unclear. We assessed the association between the risk of OSA and glaucoma in an Asian population. Materials and Methods: In this population-based, cross-sectional study, we included Indian and Malay adults aged 40 years or above recruited between 2011 and 2015. Glaucoma was assessed by trained ophthalmologists an...

Glaucoma Detection in Myopic Eyes: Structural and Vascular Assessment by Optic Coherence Tomography Methods
Précis: Retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness is helpful in the diagnosis of glaucoma in myopic eyes but neuroretinal rim (NRR) thickness is the most valuable measure. However, changes in optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) parameters are insufficient for the diagnosis of mild to moderate glaucoma in myopia. Purpose: To detect how a multimodal evaluation, which includes RNFL, NRR thickness, and optic nerve head (ONH) OCT-A, affects glaucoma diagnosis in myopic patients. Materials and Methods: Parameters of healthy myopic and myopic glaucoma eyes with an axial length of ≥24 mm were com...
