Intraocular medulloepithelioma clinical features and management of 11 cases
CONCLUSIONS: Initial misdiagnosis, delay in diagnosis and subsequent misdirected management is not uncommon in medulloepithelioma. The presence of multiple cysts in the tumour and retrolental neoplastic cyclitic membrane detected by UBM can offer certain information. Selective intra-arterial melphalan may prevent further tumour growth, but longer follow-up is necessary until treatment efficacy is fully evaluated.PMID:36997291 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2022-322449

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 2666: Postoperative Pain after Different Transscleral Laser Cyclophotocoagulation Procedures
Conclusions: We found that the occurrence of postoperative pain was not different in CW-TSCPC compared with MP-TSCPC in a multivariable model. In cases of simultaneous anterior retinal cryotherapy, the risk for postoperative pain was significantly higher.

The Results of Pars Plana Vitrectomy in the Treatment of Intraocular Retinoblastoma: A Retrospective Study and Literature Review
Conclusion: According to our observations, we recommend that the utmost care should be taken when considering PPV for the treatment of activated RB. When weighing the risk of tumor recurrence and metastasis, PPV is not suitable for routine treatment. It is necessary to fully grasp the operative indications and strictly observe operation specifications, which includes close postoperative follow-up.PMID:34747279 | PMC:PMC8573478 | DOI:10.1177/15330338211048634

Von Hippel-Lindau Disease and the Eye.
Authors: Karimi S, Arabi A, Shahraki T, Safi S Abstract Retinal hemangioblastoma (also referred to as retinal capillary hemangioma) is a benign lesion originating from the endothelial and glial components of the neurosensory retina and optic nerve head. Historically known as a manifestation of the von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease, it can be seen as an isolated finding or in association with some rare ocular conditions. In addition to characteristic ophthalmoscopic features, results of numerous ancillary tests including angiography, ultrasound, optical coherence tomography, and genetic tests may support the diagnosis...

Intraocular medulloepithelioma & #8211; A review of clinical features, DICER 1 mutation, and management
Sameeksha H Tadepalli, Carol L Shields, Jerry A Shields, Santosh G HonavarIndian Journal of Ophthalmology 2019 67(6):755-762 Intraocular medulloepithelioma is a nonhereditary neoplasm of childhood arising from primitive medullary epithelium. It most often involves the ciliary body. Most patients present between 2 and 10 years of age with loss of vision, pain, leucocoria, or conjunctival congestion. The mass appears as a grey-white ciliary body lesion with intratumoral cysts. Presence of a neoplastic cyclitic membrane with extension to retrolental region is characteristic. Secondary manifestations like cataract and neovasc...

Outcomes and Rationale of Excision and Mucous Membrane Grafting in Palpebral Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis
Conclusions: Surgical excision of refractory giant papillae followed by MMG does have its advantages in reducing their corneal complications, and it should be considered early in the management of exuberant refractory giant papillae.

Long-term anatomical and functional outcomes following vitrectomy for advanced coats disease
Conclusion: Pars plana vitrectomy combined with cryotherapy, laser photocoagulation, and intraocular tamponade could be an effective treatment option for advanced Coats disease. Despite surgery, disease-related complications remained high, but the main aim of management in these young patients is functional and anatomical stability.

High ‐intensity focused ultrasound treatment for open angle glaucoma
SummaryMany physical methods have been proposed to destroy the ciliary body, resulting in coagulation necrosis following heating (laser) or freezing (cryotherapy). These methods have two major drawbacks: they are nonselective for the target tissue and have an unpredictable dose–effect relationship. To overcome these drawbacks and take advantage of recent breakthroughs in the field of high‐intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) technology, a new device was developed to achieve a selective coagulation of the ciliary body while sparing the adjacent structures. This device is a ring‐shaped probe with six miniaturized HIFU t...

Trends in glaucoma surgical procedures in Portugal – a national database report 2000–2014
ConclusionsTrabeculectomy ab externo remains the most widely performed IOP‐lowering surgical procedure. However, there is a trend showing a reduction in the frequency of trabeculectomies, whereas there is an increase in GDD use. Cyclodestruction has a stable frequency in the number of procedures throughout the study period.
