Association between statin use and rates of structural and functional loss in glaucoma
Conclusions We did not find a statistically significant association between statin use or duration of statin use and rates of structural and functional change in those with glaucoma or glaucoma suspects.

Effects of atorvastatin on the function of Tenon ’s capsule fibroblasts in human eyes
ConclusionsATO could inhibit the proliferation and migration of HTFs and induce their apoptosis. It was preliminary proven that ATO could inhibit the signaling pathway induced by TGF- β. It is suggested that ATO could be a basis for the treatment of the scarring of filtration channels after glaucoma surgery.

Simvastatin attenuates glucocorticoid-induced human trabecular meshwork cell dysfunction via YAP/TAZ inactivation
CONCLUSIONS: YAP/TAZ inactivation with simvastatin attenuates HTM cell pathobiology in a tissue-mimetic ECM microenvironment. Our data may help explain the association of statin use with a reduced risk of developing glaucoma via indirect YAP/TAZ inhibition as a proposed regulatory mechanism.PMID:37083467 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2023.2206067

AI-powered retina scanning startup Mediwhale raises $9M
Mediwhale co-founder and CEO Kevin Choi discovered that he had lost nearly half of one of his eyes from glaucoma when he was 24, which is rare in young people. “I was devastated and could not believe this was happening to me,” Choi told TechCrunch. “There were no [initial] symptoms for me to…#kevinchoi #choi #tylerrim #mediwhale #seoul #cvd #statin #ct #korean #wooriventurepartners

Association between statin use and the risks of glaucoma in Australia: a 10-year cohort study
Conclusions Long-term statin use was found to be associated with a higher risk of glaucoma onset in this study. Regarding specific types of statins, the increased risk of glaucoma onset was only observed in users of rosuvastatin.

Corneal Endothelial Dysfunction as a Manifestation of Digoxin Toxicity
Conclusions: We encountered 1 case of corneal edema secondary to corneal endothelial dysfunction in a patient with digoxin toxicity. Special care should be taken to elicit a complete history because ocular signs can be manifestations of systemic alterations with vital importance for patients.

Effectiveness of Topical ρ-Kinase Inhibitors in Veterans with Severe Glaucoma on Maximally Tolerated Medical Therapy
CONCLUSIONS Netarsudil may produce a clinically significant intraocular pressure reduction in up to a third of the patients with advanced glaucoma already on maximally tolerated medical therapy.

Atorvastatin reduces IOP in ocular hypertension < em > in  vivo < /em > and suppresses ECM in trabecular meshwork perhaps via FGD4
Int J Mol Med. 2022 Jun;49(6):76. doi: 10.3892/ijmm.2022.5132. Epub 2022 Apr 13.ABSTRACTTo explore the role of atorvastatin in regulating intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucoma in vivo, and to investigate its related molecular pathway in vitro, an ocular hypertension model was generated by intravitreal injection of an adenoviral vector encoding transforming growth factor (TGF)‑β2 in the right eye of BALB/cJ mice, while the left was treated with an empty control adenovirus. To determine its anti‑intraocular hypertension role, these induced hyper‑IOP mice were gavaged with atorvastatin (20 mg/kg/day). Furthermore, ext...
