Safety and learning curve for Transbronchial Lung Cryobiopsy
Conclusion: In our present study incidence of TBLC was low compared to previous reports. Fluoroscopy guided TBLC with balloon occlusion procedure is well tolerable. The experience of TBLC seems to be matured above 79 cases at single institution.

Puff Pastry-Like Chitosan/Konjac Glucomannan Matrix with Thrombin-Occupied Microporous Starch Particles as a Composite for Hemostasis
In this study, we produced a puff pastry-like chitosan/konjac glucomannan matrix loaded with thrombin-occupied microporous starch particles to initiate hemostasis. The composite showed a hierarchical porous structure system consisting of porous and rough structures with evenly distributed microporous starch particles. Thrombin was evenly and independently distributed on the microporous starch particles within the hierarchical system and served to accelerate hemostasis. Meanwhile, the composite displayed excellent water absorption capacity, high zeta potential, roughness, and porosity. The composite was found to elicit desi...

A Comparative Efficacy Evaluation of Recombinant Topical Thrombin (RECOTHROM ®) With A Gelatin Sponge Carrier Versus Topical Oxidized Regenerated Cellulose (TABOTAMP®/SURGICEL®) In A Porcine Liver Bleeding Model.
Conclusions: In this model, rT plus gelatin sponge carrier (active) was a more effective hemostat than ORC (passive) in both heparinized and non-heparinized animals. PMID: 31955627 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

In-vitro and in-vivo evaluation of modified sodium starch glycolate for exploring its haemostatic potential
Publication date: Available online 11 February 2020Source: Carbohydrate PolymersAuthor(s): Vineeta Panwar, Jijo Thomas, Anjana Sharma, Vianni Chopra, Swati Kaushik, Ashutosh Kumar, Deepa GhoshAbstractThe control of blood flow from breached blood vessels during surgery or trauma is challenging. With the existing treatment options being either expensive or ineffective, the development of a haemostat that overcome such drawbacks would be beneficial. With an aim to develop an ideal haemostat, the potential of sodium starch glycolate (SSG), a commonly used pharmaceutical disintegrant was modified to obtain porous microparticles...

Non-antibiotic prophylaxis in thyroid surgery. Experience of a single Institution and revision of literature.
CONCLUSIONS: Fever, neutrophilic leukocytosis and increased PCR cannot be assessed as predictive factors of infectious complication in thyroid surgery. The cutaneous antisepsis of the operative field with chlorhexidine gluconate, the improvement of the surgical technique, the protection of the cutaneous margins of incision, the use of new devices, the accurate hemostasis and the reduction of surgery time lead to a lack of SSIs and systemic infection complications in all patients undergoing thyroid surgery in NO-AP. Thermal Treatment Stimulus on Erythrocyte Compatibility and Hemostatic Behaviour of One-Dimensional Bioactive Nano-Structures.
This study identifies the role and significance of heat treatment parameters on blood compatibility and hemostatic performances. Bioactive nanomaterials step-annealed at 550 °C and 600 °C enhances the biocompatibility due to the liberation of nitrate content. This also develops the anisotropic structures such as needle-like and rod-like appearances that positively improve the erythrocyte compatibility. Different stable crystalline phases such as NaCaPO4 , Na2 Ca2 Si3 O9 and Na1.8 Ca1.1 Si6 O14 were observed for all the bioactive materials, while in the case of 800 °C phase transition of Na3 CaPSiO7 was perceived along w...
