Treatment intervals and survival for women diagnosed with early breast cancer in Queensland: the Breast Cancer Outcomes Study, a population-based cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Breast cancer-specific survival was poorer for women for whom the diagnosis to surgery, surgery to chemotherapy, or chemotherapy to radiotherapy intervals exceeded guideline-recommended limits. Our findings support 2020 Australian guideline recommendations regarding timely care.PMID:37667512 | DOI:10.5694/mja2.52091

The Introduction of a Protocol for Esophageal Screening in Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Studies: Exploring Clinical Impacts and Barriers
CONCLUSIONS: This study confirms that routine esophageal screening provides additional clinical information to assist holistic dysphagia management without adverse operational impacts. Further research with the multidisciplinary dysphagia team has commenced to continue to optimize and refine esophageal screening practice.PMID:37668538 | DOI:10.1044/2023_AJSLP-23-00022

Barriers and facilitators to adherence to Optimal Care Pathways for diagnosis and treatment of cancer for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
CONCLUSIONS: Facilitators of optimal care during treatment and survivorship included: the Integrated Team Care and Close the Gap programs, and presence of key health workers to help patients navigate the health system. The major barriers to quality cancer care for Aboriginal people appeared to be to specialist and procedural access, demonstrating that the 'Inverse Care' law applied in reducing access for populations at higher risk of cancer.PMID:37667463 | DOI:10.1071/PY22181

A multi-country comparison of jurisdictions with and without mandatory nutrition labelling policies in restaurants: analysis of behaviours associated with menu labelling in the 2019 International Food Policy Study

Management Paradigm of Central Nervous System Metastases in NSCLC: An Australian Perspective
JTO Clin Res Rep. 2023 Jul 26;4(9):100553. doi: 10.1016/j.jtocrr.2023.100553. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTLife-prolonging central nervous system active systemic therapies for metastatic NSCLC have increased the complexity of managing brain metastases (BMs). Australian medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and neurosurgeons discussed the evidence guiding the diverse clinical approaches to the management of BM in NSCLC. The Australian context is broadly applicable to other jurisdictions; therefore, we have documented these discussions as principles with broader applications. Patient management was stratified according...

Intralesional 5-fluorouracil as a management for cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas: A rural Australian retrospective case series
Australas J Dermatol. 2023 Sep 4. doi: 10.1111/ajd.14148. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWhile the gold standard treatment for cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cSCCs) is surgical removal, there is a risk of infection, cosmetic and functional deficits. Intralesional 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) has been shown to be a potential non-surgical treatment modality for cSCCs in the literature. The aim was to investigate the safety and feasibility of using intralesional 5-FU to treat cSCCs. A literature review was conducted and a retrospective case series analysed patients who commenced intralesional 5-FU treatment for at least one cSCC...
