The re-emergence of influenza following the COVID-19 pandemic in Victoria, Australia, 2021 to 2022
ConclusionEnhanced testing for respiratory viruses during the COVID-19 pandemic provided a more complete picture of influenza virus transmission compared with previous seasons. Returned international travellers were important drivers of influenza reemergence, as were young adults, a group whose role has previously been under-recognised in the establishment of seasonal influenza epidemics. Scoping review of practice-focused resources to support the implementation of place-based approaches
CONCLUSIONS: Based on findings, we recommend that: (1) the development of resources to support evidence-informed practice and governance be prioritised; (2) resources clearly state their target audience and tailor communication to this audience; (3) resources draw on evidence from a range of sources; (4) resources continue to include practical implementation strategies supported by examples and (5) resource content be adaptable to different contexts (e.g., different settings and/or target populations). Googling long-acting reversible contraception: A scoping review examining the information available online about intrauterine devices and contraceptive implants
CONCLUSIONS: Most webpages provided medically accurate information to consumers; however, many did not include key information such as cost or how they work. Descriptions of side effects varied between webpages, and this may inhibit informed decision-making. SO WHAT?: Most people make decisions about what contraceptive method they might like to use before visiting a health care provider, and most will get this information from the internet. Antioxidant vitamin and mineral supplements for slowing the progression of age-related macular degeneration
CONCLUSIONS: Moderate-certainty evidence suggests that antioxidant vitamin and mineral supplementation (AREDS: vitamin C, E, beta-carotene, and zinc) probably slows down progression to late AMD. People with intermediate AMD have a higher chance of benefiting from antioxidant supplements because their risk of progression is higher than people with early AMD. Rethinking the distribution of sleep services: discrepancy of obstructive sleep apnoea in rural compared with metropolitan men in Australia - a large national survey
CONCLUSION: This study highlights the need to ensure adequate services in rural areas, given the higher proportion of men diagnosed with, or at risk of, OSA in rural areas. OSA is also associated with an increase risk of comorbidities such as heart disease, hypertension and diabetes, which are diseases also seen more prevalently in rural men.
