Untargeted cannabinomics reveals the chemical differentiation of industrial hemp based on the cultivar and the geographical field location
Anal Chim Acta. 2023 Oct 16;1278:341716. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2023.341716. Epub 2023 Aug 22.ABSTRACTCannabis sativa has long been harvested for industrial applications related to its fibers. Industrial hemp cultivars, a botanical class of Cannabis sativa with a low expression of intoxicating Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) have been selected for these purposes and scarcely investigated in terms of their content in bioactive compounds. Following the global relaxation in the market of industrial hemp-derived products, research in industrial hemp for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical purposes has surged. In this context, meta...

Expert consensus on the management of patients undergoing cataract surgery: A Delphi study
CONCLUSIONS: The participants felt they could largely agree with and approve the statements proposed by the board. In addition, the Delphi study identified some points that are highly shared and endorsed. In particular, a new model approach can be based on a seven-day course using a fixed high-potency corticosteroid combination with a broad-spectrum antibiotic. At the end of this cycle, the patient should be re-evaluated in some way to continue any treatment in the most appropriate and personalized way possible.PMID:37700672 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231200996

The Impact of COVID19 on Treatment Practices for Patients With Early Breast Cancer: A Cross-Sectional Study From a Large Cancer Center In Italy
CONCLUSIONS: There was no evidence for major changes in the management of patients with EBC during 2019-2021 and no treatment delays were observed. Our findings suggest that more women presented with palpable nodules at diagnosis, but the stage distribution did not change over time. Validation on a larger cohort of patients is warranted to robustly assess the impact of the COVID19 pandemic on treatment practices for patients with EBC.PMID:37699107 | DOI:10.1093/oncolo/oyad255

Evaluation of a new magnetically suspended centrifugal neonatal pump in healthy animals using a veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation configuration
CONCLUSIONS: In this animal study, the "New Born ECMOLife" centrifugal pump showed good hemodynamic performance. Long-term studies are needed to evaluate biocompatibility of this new ECMO pump.PMID:37698935 | DOI:10.1177/02676591231202380

Determinants of emergency delivery in pregnancies complicated by placenta previa or placenta accreta spectrum disorders: analysis of ADoPAD Cohort
CONCLUSION: Emergency CD complicated about 20% of women with PAS disorders and 30% of those with placenta previa and not PAS and is associated with a worse maternal and perinatal outcome compared to elective intervention. Prenatal ultrasound cannot entirely predict the risk of emergency delivery in women with these disorders. This article is protected by copyright. An innovative method for human height estimation combining video images and 3D laser scanning
This article describes the methodological approach adopted through the analysis of a real case study in a controlled environment executed by Carabinieri Forensic Investigation Department (Italy). The aim is to obtain a human anthropometric measure derived from frames extracted from the videos associated with the digital survey of the framed area obtained with 3D laser scanning and point cloud analysis. The result is the height estimation of five subjects filmed by a camera obtained through the combination of 2D images extracted by a DVR/surveillance systems with 3D laser scanning. Results show that most estimated measureme...

Epidemiology of Spinocerebellar Ataxias in Europe
Cerebellum. 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.1007/s12311-023-01600-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSpinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs) are a heterogenous group of rare neurodegenerative conditions sharing an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance. More than 40 SCAs have been genetically determined. However, a systematic review of SCA epidemiology in Europe is still missing. Here we performed a narrative review of the literature on the epidemiology of the most common SCAs in Europe. PubMed, Embase, and MEDLINE were searched from inception until 1 April 2023. All English peer-reviewed articles published were considered and then filtered ...
