Association of giant cell hepatitis and autoimmune hemolytic anemia in infancy
Orv Hetil. 2023 Sep 10;164(36):1432-1436. doi: 10.1556/650.2023.32848. Print 2023 Sep 10.ABSTRACTGiant cell hepatitis associated with autoimmune hemolytic anemia (GCH-AIHA) is a rare disorder with unfavorable prognosis, affecting infants and young children. The mortality rate is high, complications of acute liver failure, sepsis, or liver transplantation can be responsible for fatal outcomes. An 18-month-old child who was diagnosed previously with autoimmune hemolytic anemia, developed acute hepatitis and acute liver failure concomitant to the relapse of the disease. GCH-AIHA is characterized by Coombs positive hemolytic a...

Diagnostic and treatment guidelines for thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) in Japan 2023
Int J Hematol. 2023 Sep 10. doi: 10.1007/s12185-023-03657-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) can rapidly become a life-threatening condition, and the importance of its appropriate diagnosis and treatment cannot be overstated. Until recently, TTP has mainly been diagnosed by clinical findings such as thrombocytopenia and hemolytic anemia. In addition to these clinical findings, however, reduced activity of a disintegrin-like and metalloprotease with thrombospondin type 1 motif 13 (ADAMTS13) below 10% has become internationally accepted as a diagnostic criterion for TTP. TTP is classif...

Nine-year Follow-up of Lenalidomide Plus Rituximab as Initial Treatment for Mantle Cell Lymphoma
We report 9-year follow up of a multi-center phase 2 study of lenalidomide plus rituximab (LR) as initial treatment of MCL. The LR doublet is used as induction and maintenance until progression, with optional discontinuation after 3 years. We previously reported an overall response rate in evaluable patients of 92%, with 64% achieving a complete response. At a median follow up of 103 months, 17 (47%) of 36 evaluable patients remain in remission. The 9-year progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were 51% and 66%, respectively. During maintenance, hematologic adverse events (AEs) included asymptomatic grad...

Decreased lymphoma-related deaths and improved long-term relative survival with radiotherapy for early-stage diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in the rituximab era
CONCLUSION: RT reduced LRD and improved the long-term net survival in early-stage DLBCL in the rituximab era. Further prospective studies are warranted to assess the specific patient population that would benefit the most from consolidative RT in early-stage DLBCL.PMID:37678622 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109902

Obinutuzumab in Frequently Relapsing and Steroid-Dependent Nephrotic Syndrome in Children
CONCLUSIONS: These results identified low-dose obinituzumab as a promising treatment option in children with steroid-dependent or frequently relapsing nephrotic syndrome, including those resistant to rituximab. The tolerance profile of obinutuzumab appears similar to that of rituximab, but hemogram and immunoglobulin levels should be monitored.PMID:37678236 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000288
