Development and validation of a risk prediction nomogram for serious arrhythmias in acute digoxin toxicity among pediatrics: A multicenter study
Toxicon. 2023 Aug 7:107241. doi: 10.1016/j.toxicon.2023.107241. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDigoxin is a cardiac glycoside obtained from the leaves of the foxglove plant, Digitalis lanata. Several studies have described the safety of digoxin in various life-threatening events, notably cardiac arrhythmias. Early identification of high-risk patients and subsequent initiation of the utmost medical care are associated with a better prognosis. The assessment of serum digoxin levels, which is not always convenient, is the only tool used to evaluate the severity of digoxin exposure. However, the feasibility of this tool, partic...

Simultaneous recycling of waste solar panels and treatment of persistent organic compounds via supercritical water technology
Environ Pollut. 2023 Aug 7:122331. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2023.122331. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe study addresses the application of the supercritical water technology in the simultaneous recycling of obsolete solar panels and treatment of persistent organic compounds. The obsolete solar panels samples were characterized by TEM-EDS, SEM, TG-DTA, XRD, WDXRF, MP-AES and elemental analysis. Initially, the optimized parameters for the degradation of solid organic polymers present in residual solar panels via oxidation in supercritical water were defined by an experimental design. Under optimized conditions, 550 °C, reac...

Environmental modulation of exopolysaccharide production in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis 6803
Appl Microbiol Biotechnol. 2023 Aug 8. doi: 10.1007/s00253-023-12697-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMicroorganisms produce extracellular polymeric substances (EPS, also known as exopolysaccharides) of diverse composition and structure. The biochemical and biophysical properties of these biopolymers enable a wide range of industrial applications. EPS from cyanobacteria are particularly versatile as they incorporate a larger number and variety of building blocks and adopt more complex structures than EPS from other organisms. However, the genetic makeup and regulation of EPS biosynthetic pathways in cyanobacteria are poorl...

Patients with radiographic axial spondylarthritis have an impaired dietary intake-a cross-sectional study with matched controls from northern Sweden
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that r-axSpA patients have an impaired dietary intake. Notably, intake was lower in several nutrients theorized to have anti-inflammatory properties (fiber density, marine-omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and selenium). We further propose that nutrition screening might be incorporated into the management of r-axSpA patients.PMID:37550771 | DOI:10.1186/s13075-023-03126-3

Statistical modeling and optimization of dexamethasone adsorption from aqueous solution by Fe3O4@NH2-MIL88B nanorods: Isotherm, Kinetics, and Thermodynamic
Environ Res. 2023 Aug 3:116773. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.116773. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe presence of pharmaceutical compounds in the environment poses a significant threat to human and aquatic animal health. Dexamethasone (DEX), a synthetic steroid hormone with endocrine-disrupting effects, is one such compound that needs to be effectively removed before discharging into the environment. This research presents a novel approach utilizing magnetically recyclable Fe3O4@NH2-MIL88B NRs as an efficient adsorbent for the treatment of DEX from aqueous solutions. The synthesized adsorbent was characterized by X-ray diff...

A calcium peroxide incorporated oxygen releasing chitosan-PVA patch for Diabetic wound healing
In this study, a Chitosan-Polyvinyl alcohol (CS-PVA) based hydrogel containing oxygen releasing nanoparticle, calcium peroxide (CPO) was constructed to provide a slow and sustained delivery of oxygen for at least 5 days. In-vitro cell culture studies with this material using fibroblast and endothelial cell line exhibited improved biocompatibility, cell viability and enhanced proliferation in comparison with the control group. Additionally, cell migration study using scratch assay method showed superior cell migration ability of our proposed materials. Furthermore, In vivo study using diabetic rat model showed accelerated w...

Investigations on some indicators in the blood of cattle with orosthenic activity tongue rolling
CONCLUSION: The data demonstrating increased levels of adrenaline, noradrenaline, cortisol, and ACTH confirmed the etiological role of environmental stressors in the emergence of oral hyperactivity. Increased serotonin concentrations in the blood suggest that cattle with the stereotype are probably "happy" with tongue rolling. The lack of changes in blood trace elements manganese, copper, and iron allowed excluding their deficiency as a probable cause in the etiology of the disorder.PMID:37534076 | PMC:PMC10390672 | DOI:10.5455/javar.2023.j685

Stereolithography 3D Printed Carbon Microlattices with Hierarchical Porosity for Structural and Functional Applications
The combination of stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing, pyrolysis and hard-templating realizes hierarchically porous carbon microlattices (HPCMLs) that possess porosity in four stages: 3D architecture, macro-, meso-, and micropores. HPCMLs exhibit mechanical robustness with strength of 7.45 –10.45 MPa and functionality as extraordinarily thick electrochemical capacitors with areal capacitance as high as 10 F cm−2 simultaneously. AbstractHierarchically porous carbon microlattices (HPCMLs) fabricated by using a composite photoresin and stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing is reported. Containing magnesium oxide nanopart...
