Oxidative stress responses and their alterations in the Nrf2-NMDA receptor pathway in the brain of suicide victims
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between oxidative stress progression, Nrf2 regulation, and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA) subunit composition in the hippocampus (Hp) and frontal cortex (FCx) of suicide victims (n=14) and matched controls (n=8). Furthermore, zinc and magnesium concentrations and their potency to inhibit [3H] MK-801 (radioactively labeled form of MK-801 - dizocilpine, a well-characterized NMDAR channel uncompetitive antagonist frequently used in receptor-binding assays) binding to NMDA receptor channels were measured. Our results revealed a statistically significant increase in protein...

Novel dual-emission fluorescence imprinted sensor based on Mg, N-CDs and metal-organic frameworks for rapid and smart detection of 2, 4, 6-trinitrophenol
Talanta. 2023 Aug 25;266(Pt 2):125115. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2023.125115. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRapid and real-time detection of 2, 4, 6-trinitrophenol (TNP) is of great importance for the living environment and human health. Herein, we constructed an innovative ratiometric fluorescence imprinted sensor with fast response and high selectivity based on magnesium and nitrogen co-doped carbon dots (Mg, N-CDs) and chromium telluride quantum dots (r-CdTe) self-assembled in zirconium-based metal organic frameworks (UiO-66) combined with imprinted polymers for the detection of TNP. In the protocol, the introduction of Ui...

Magnesium ions regulated ovalbumin-lysozyme heteroprotein complex: Aggregation kinetics, thermodynamics and morphologic structure
This study aims to investigate the mechanism of magnesium ions regulated ovalbumin-lysozyme (OVA-LYS) heteroprotein aggregation behavior via aggregation kinetics model, exploring the relationship between differential aggregation behavior and protein molecular structure, intermolecular interactions and thermal stability. Results showed that the aggregation rate (kapp) and maximum absorbance (Amax) of the OVA-LYS heteroprotein complex were located between OVA and LYS. Meanwhile, the thermal denaturation temperature (Td) and denaturation enthalpy (ΔH) were between the values of OVA and LYS as well. Compared with OVA, the the...

Characterization of airborne particulate matter and its toxic and proarrhythmic effects: A case study in Aburr á Valley, Colombia
This study characterized the PM collected from the north, south, and central zones to evaluate its chemical composition and morphology. Different elements such as silicon, carbon, aluminum, potassium, calcium, sodium, iron, magnesium, and copper and the presence of unburned fuel, motor oil, and silicon fibers were identified. In vitro and in silico studies were conducted to evaluate the toxicity of the PM, and it was found that the PM collected from the central zone had the greatest impact on cell viability and caused DNA damage. The in silico study demonstrated that PM has concentration-dependent proarrhythmic effects, re...
