Spatio-temporal evolution of groundwater quality and its health risk assessment in Punjab (India) during 2000-2020
In this study, spatial tools are utilized to understand the evolution of groundwater in Punjab (> 315 sites) for the last two decades (2000-2020) for drinking purposes using the water quality index (WQI). The data for pH, electric conductivity (EC), bicarbonate (HCO3¯), chloride (Cl¯), sulfate (SO42¯), nitrate (NO3¯), fluoride (F¯), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), sodium (Na+), and potassium (K+) collected from the Central Groundwater Board (CGWB) were analyzed. The results show that the average cation abundance is in declining order of Na > Mg > Ca > K, and anion abundance is in order of HCO3¯ > SO4...

Systematic review of the association between talc and female reproductive tract cancers
Front Toxicol. 2023 Aug 7;5:1157761. doi: 10.3389/ftox.2023.1157761. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTTalc is a hydrous magnesium sheet silicate used in cosmetic powders, ceramics, paints, rubber, and many other products. We conducted a systematic review of the potential carcinogenicity of genitally applied talc in humans. Our systematic review methods adhere to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and incorporated aspects from the US Institute of Medicine (IOM, now the National Academy of Medicine) and several US EPA frameworks for systematic reviews, evaluating and integrating th...

Magnesium suppresses in vivo oxidative stress and ex vivo DNA damage induced by protracted ACTH treatment in rats
Magnes Res. 2023 Mar 1;36(1):1-13. doi: 10.1684/mrh.2023.0510.ABSTRACTOxidative stress, arising from disrupted balance between reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) and antioxidant defences, has been implicated in the pathogenesis of stress-related disorders. There is a growing body of evidence that supports the relationship between the activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) stress system, oxidative stress and magnesium (Mg) homeostasis. The present study aimed to explore the gap in our current understanding of antigenotoxic and protective effects of Mg supplementation against excessive ROS production in...

Assessment of spring water quality of Khandbari Municipality in Sankhuwasabha District, Eastern Nepal
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Aug 23. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29138-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe study was carried out in the Khandbari Municipality, Sankhuwasabha District, Eastern Nepal to document the spring location and assess the water quality of the spring water for drinking and irrigation purposes. A total of 85 springs were mapped, which are located from 274 to 2176 m in altitude. Spring water samples were collected from 33 springs in the pre-monsoon (November, 2021) and 31 springs in the post-monsoon (March, 2022). Correlation matrices, t-test, principal component analysis (PCA), Piper diagram, Gibbs di...
