Time-efficient, high-resolution 3T whole-brain relaxometry using 3D-QALAS with wave-CAIPI readouts
CONCLUSION: Three-dimensional QALAS enhanced with wave-CAIPI readouts enables time-efficient, full-brain quantitative T1 , T2 , and PD mapping at 1.15 mm3 in 3 min at R = 3 × 2 acceleration. The quantitative maps obtained from the accelerated wave-CAIPI 3D-QALAS protocol showed very similar values to those from the standard 3D-QALAS (R = 2) protocol, alluding to the robustness and reliability of the proposed method.PMID:37705496 | DOI:10.1002/mrm.29865

Mass spectrometers as cryoEM grid preparation instruments
Curr Opin Struct Biol. 2023 Sep 11;83:102699. doi: 10.1016/j.sbi.2023.102699. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStructure determination by single-particle cryoEM has matured into a core structural biology technique. Despite many methodological advancements, most cryoEM grids are still prepared using the plunge-freezing method developed ∼40 years ago. Embedding samples in thin films and exposing them to the air-water interface often leads to sample damage and preferential orientation of the particles. Using native mass spectrometry to create cryoEM samples, potentially avoids these problems and allows the use of mass spectrom...

Cumulative lifetime acute stressor exposure interacts with reward responsiveness to predict longitudinal increases in depression severity in adolescence
CONCLUSIONS: Lifetime acute stressor exposure may be particularly depressogenic for youth exhibiting a blunted RewP. Conversely, a robust RewP may be protective in the presence of greater acute lifetime stressor exposure.PMID:37698514 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291722001386

Perpetuation of household food insecurity during COVID-19 in South Africa
CONCLUSIONS: South Africa needs to address socioeconomic challenges and inequalities to assist the perpetually food insecure and to ensure that, should there be a pandemic resurgence, or a new pandemic, individuals and households in the country are in a better financial situation and appropriately supported to avoid food insecurity at all costs.PMID:37700382 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-023-00441-y
