Metabolic syndrome increases the risk for premature employment exit: A longitudinal study among 60 427 middle-aged and older workers from the Lifelines Cohort Study and Biobank
CONCLUSIONS: MetS was identified as a modifiable early-stage cardio-metabolic risk factor especially for work disability and, to a lesser extent, for unemployment. Further, a clear dose-response relationship was found between an increasing number of MetS components and work disability. MetS interventions and prevention might help to prolong working lives. More awareness is needed among employers and occupational health professionals about the premature employment exit risk faced by middle-aged and older workers with MetS.PMID:37672668 | DOI:10.5271/sjweh.4113

Personality predicting relapse: A facet analysis of the NEO PI-R
CONCLUSIONS AND SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: Several personality domains and facets were significantly related to relapse, confirming and expanding on prior literature. This study focuses on the risk of relapse as it relates to NEO PI-R individual facets, which have not been previously explored with a sample size of this magnitude. These findings can guide clinical care of patients with SUD, allowing for more targeted treatment.PMID:37667561 | DOI:10.1111/ajad.13477

Assessment of hesitancy to COVID-19 vaccine in patients with rheumatic arthritis
CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19 vaccination rate among RA patients in China is low due to limited knowledge, misconceptions, and insufficient promotion. Boosting confidence and understanding of the vaccine's effectiveness and safety is crucial to improve vaccination success.PMID:37667922 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202308_33397

Does environmental quality react asymmetrically to unemployment and inflation rates? African OPEC countries' perspective
This study also examines whether the environmental Phillips curve (EPC) hypothesis holds true in the context of African OPEC countries over the period 1990 to 2019. The study presents three interesting findings. First, CO2 emissions are adversely associated with unemployment and inflation rates, meaning that protecting a healthy environment would have to come at the expense of two undesirable outcomes: losing employment and a decline in purchasing power. Second, the asymmetry analysis demonstrates that both negative unemployment and positive inflation shocks have a larger effect on CO2 emissions than the opposite scenario....

Determination of pre-pregnancy fear of childbirth levels in Turkish and Syrian refugee individuals with no children: A comparative study
CONCLUSIONS: In the current study, it was determined that both genders and cultures had a fear of childbirth, although it was more common in women and Syrian refugees. According to the findings of the study, culture, gender, age, education level, and preferred mode of birth were factors related to childbirth fear prior to pregnancy.PMID:37664180 | PMC:PMC10470294 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100225

Impact of changing the prevalence of smoking, alcohol consumption and overweight/obesity on cancer incidence in China from 2021 to 2050: a simulation modelling study
EClinicalMedicine. 2023 Aug 18;63:102163. doi: 10.1016/j.eclinm.2023.102163. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Smoking, alcohol consumption and overweight/obesity are key cancer risk factors contributing to the cancer burden in China. We aimed to quantify the cancer burden in China associated with smoking, alcohol consumption and overweight/obesity, and estimate the potential effect for cancer prevention interventions under different scenarios.METHODS: We used a macro-simulation approach called Prevent Model to estimate for a 30-year study period (2021-2050) numbers and proportions of future avoidable cancer cases u...
