Comparison of Effectiveness of Moringa Oleifera Leaves Extract Gel (2%) with Retino A (0.1%) Cream for Treatment of Oral Leukoplakia: Double Blinded Randomized Control Trial
CONCLUSION: This study showed that M. oleifera mucoadhesive gel (2%) is an effective and safe treatment option for oral leukoplakia patients. It demonstrated a significant reduction in lesion size compared to Retino-A cream (0.1%) after 3 months of therapy, without any reported adverse effects. However, long-term follow-up studies are needed to evaluate its long-term effectiveness. The potent antioxidant property of M. oleifera makes it a promising candidate for further studies with concentration variations and in other potentially malignant oral disorders, such as lichen planus and OSMF. The development of chemotherapeuti...

Benefits beyond cardiometabolic health: the potential of frequent high intensity 'exercise snacks' to improve outcomes for those living with and beyond cancer
J Physiol. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1113/JP284985. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHigh intensity interval training (HIIT) has been shown to consistently elicit rapid and significant adaptations in a number of physiological systems, across many different healthy and clinical populations. In addition, there is increasing interest in how some acute, yet transient responses to high intensity exercise potentially reduce the risks of particular diseases. Recent work has shown that discrete, brief bouts of high intensity exercise (termed 'exercise snacks') can improve glucose control and vascular health and thus counter the negative c...

Unique Considerations in Early Detection, Risk, and Awareness of Endometrial Cancer in Black Women
Cancer Control. 2023 Jan-Dec;30:10732748231202952. doi: 10.1177/10732748231202952.ABSTRACTEndometrial cancer is the most common gynecologic cancer in the United States. Over the last several decades, the incidence of aggressive tumors, and thus the rate of death from disease, has increased significantly. The population most affected by these epidemiologic shifts are Black women. Symptom awareness, lack of treatment access, and failure of providers to provide guideline-concordant care are just some of the drivers behind these changes. Race as a social construct has historically categorized women into groups that are not ref...

Is cervical dysplasia a major concern in women with inflammatory bowel disease? A Spanish retrospective study
Rev Esp Enferm Dig. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.17235/reed.2023.9890/2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCervical cancer (CC) is the fourth most common cancer affecting women worldwide. The risk of women immunosuppressed due to AIDS or organ transplantation is well documented, as most cases are caused by persistent human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and immunosuppression can prevent clearing HPV. Although European guidelines advise that inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) women under immunosuppression should be screened for CC as regularly as high-risk patients, quality evidence is lacking in our country. We performed a retrospect...

Boiling histotripsy induces dendritic cell activation and acquisition of antigen in tumor draining lymph nodes
bioRxiv. 2023 Sep 6:2023.09.02.552844. doi: 10.1101/2023.09.02.552844. Preprint.ABSTRACTBoiling histotripsy (BH), a mechanical focused ultrasound ablation strategy, can elicit intriguing signatures of anti-tumor immunity. However, the influence of BH on dendritic cell function is unknown, compromising our ability to optimally combine BH with immunotherapies to control metastatic disease. Here, by applying BH to B16F10 melanoma expressing a ZsGreen antigen in a monotherapy protocol that elicits abscopal tumor control, we observed a marked increase in antigen acquisition by multiple phagocytic immune cells, including convent...

Population effectiveness of endoscopy screening for mortality reduction in gastric cancer
CONCLUSIONS: In addition to the effectiveness of the used modality, the disease burden and screened rate were important in the population effectiveness of cancer screening. Regarding the high NNSs and the low expected mortality-rate reduction, population-based endoscopic screening seems not to be effective in many countries, and these results are meaningful in decision-making regarding the introduction of endoscopic screening.PMID:37731836 | PMC:PMC10508325 | DOI:10.1002/deo2.296

Topical Calcipotriol Plus Imiquimod Immunotherapy for Nonkeratinocyte Skin Cancers
In this study, we demonstrate that topical TSLP cytokine inducers-calcipotriol and retinoic acid-synergize with IMQ to activate CD4+ T-cell immunity against nonkeratinocyte cutaneous malignancies. Topical calcipotriol plus IMQ treatment reduced breast tumor growth compared with calcipotriol or IMQ alone (P < 0.0001). Calcipotriol plus IMQ-mediated tumor suppression was associated with significant infiltration of CD4+ effector T cells in the tumor microenvironment. Notably, topical calcipotriol plus IMQ immunotherapy enabled immune checkpoint blockade therapy to effectively control immunologically cold breast tumors, whi...
