The level of macrophage migration inhibitory factor is negatively correlated with the efficacy of PD-1 blockade immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy as a neoadjuvant therapy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
CONCLUSION: Baseline MIF levels were negatively correlated with neoadjuvant therapy efficacy. Thus, MIF may serve as a predictive biomarker for this therapy. The accuracy of the prediction could be improved if the serum concentration of MIF is measured again after the patient received several weeks of treatment.PMID:37678132 | DOI:10.1016/j.tranon.2023.101775

Prediction of Tumor PD-L1 Expression in Resectable Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer by Machine Learning Models Based on Clinical and Radiological Features: Performance Comparison With Preoperative Biopsy
CONCLUSIONS: Our machine learning could be an adjunctive tool in estimating PD-L1 expression prior to neoadjuvant treatment, particularly when PD-L1 is indeterminable with biopsy.PMID:37673781 | DOI:10.1016/j.cllc.2023.08.010

Supervised Risk Predictor of Breast Cancer Based on Intrinsic Subtypes
CONCLUSION: Diagnosis by intrinsic subtype adds significant prognostic and predictive information to standard parameters for patients with breast cancer. The prognostic properties of the continuous risk score will be of value for the management of node-negative breast cancers. The subtypes and risk score can also be used to assess the likelihood of efficacy from neoadjuvant chemotherapy.PMID:37672882 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.22.02511

Application of personalized spacers made with 3D-printed mold in the two-stage procedure for periarticular infection
CONCLUSIONS: This case report describes limb-salvage surgery following distal femoral resection for periarticular infection. The personalized spacers prepared by a 3D-printed mold can be used in periarticular infection after long bone resection, mega-prosthetic infection, or limb-salvage surgery for temporary joints in small children.PMID:37667927 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202308_33402

Immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy in neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment for cancer: A paradigm shift in the treatment of resectable gastrointestinal cancer 3)A paradigm shift in the treatment of colorectal cancer
Int J Clin Oncol. 2023 Sep 5. doi: 10.1007/s10147-023-02387-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTImmune checkpoint inhibitors, such as anti-programmed cell death-1, programmed cell death ligand-1, and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4 monoclonal antibodies, have been notably effective in various types of cancers. Mismatch repair deficiency and microsatellite instability-high tumors have been established as striking biomarkers for response to immune checkpoint inhibitors. These biomarkers show a higher mutational burden, have cancer-associated neoantigens, and dense immune cell infiltration, which generates a robust immune respo...

Clinicopathological characteristics of breast cancer patients with HER-2 low expression received neoadjuvant therapy
CONCLUSIONS: In general, further studies are needed to confirm that HER-2 low expression is a special breast cancer molecular subtype. The efficacy of neoadjuvant therapy in patients with HER-2 low expression is relatively poor, and the efficacy of neoadjuvant therapy can predict the prognosis of patients with HER-2 low expression.PMID:37669631 | DOI:10.1159/000533787

Sequential Chemotherapy Followed by Radiotherapy Versus Concurrent Chemo-Radiation in Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer
Urol J. 2023 Jul 31. doi: 10.22037/uj.v20i.7525. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBladder cancer is diagnosed at older age compared to all other known cancer types. Radical cystectomy after neoadjuvant chemotherapy or tri-modality treatment (consist of TURB, concurrent chemo-radiation) are the standard treatments. Many of the patients cannot receive tri-modality treatment (concurrent chemo-radiation) because of medical comorbidities. The present study assessed the results of sequential use of chemotherapy and radiotherapy versus concurrent use of them in 266 muscle invasive bladder cancer patients. The results showed similar ...

The prognostic value of TMB in early-stage non-small cell lung cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The inherent prognostic role of TMB is limited in early-stage NSCLC. Ethnic differences in mutation burden must be considered while designing future trials on neoadjuvant immunotherapy. Further research in the harmonization and standardization of panel-based TMB is essential for its widespread clinical utility.Registration: CRD42023392846.PMID:37667779 | PMC:PMC10475237 | DOI:10.1177/17588359231195199
