Preclinical evaluation of general toxicity and safety pharmacology of a receptor-binding domain-based COVID-19 subunit vaccine in various animal models
In conclusion, HuVac-19 was not associated with any major systemic adverse effects in the general toxicity and safety pharmacology evaluation, demonstrating that HuVac-19 is a vaccine candidate with sufficient capacity to be used in human clinical trials.PMID:37491472 | DOI:10.1007/s00204-023-03549-6

Current status of nano-vaccinology in veterinary medicine science
This article reviews the currently available nanovaccine technology and considers its utility for both infectious diseases and non-infectious diseases such as auto-immunity and cancer. Future research opportunities and application challenges from bench to clinical usage are also discussed.PMID:37487030 | DOI:10.1002/vms3.1221

Molecular and genetic characterization of bovine parainfluenza type 3 European field and vaccine strains
In this study, we sequenced the full-genome and genetically characterized BPIV-3 strains isolated from animals displaying respiratory illness in France and Sweden, as well as the vaccine strains contained in three different commercialized vaccines. Our results show that the sequences from France and Sweden belong to genotype C. However, a third sequence from Sweden from 2017 clustered within genotype A. The sequencing of vaccine strains revealed that two of the vaccine strains clustered within genotype C, whereas the third vaccine strain belonged to genotype A. Altogether, our findings suggest that both genotypes A and C c...

Enhanced HPV16 E6/E7+ tumor eradication via induction of tumor-specific T cells by therapeutic vaccination with virosomes presenting synthetic long peptides
AbstractTherapeutic cancer vaccines trigger CD4  + and CD8 + T cell responses capable of established tumor eradication. Current platforms include DNA, mRNA and synthetic long peptide (SLP) vaccines, all aiming at robust T cell responses. SLPs linked to the Amplivant® adjuvant (Amplivant-SLP) have shown effective delivery to dendritic cel ls, resulting in improved immunogenicity in mice. We have now tested virosomes as a delivery vehicle for SLPs. Virosomes are nanoparticles made from influenza virus membranes and have been used as vaccines for a variety of antigens. Amplivant-SLP virosomes induced the expansion of...

Novel siRNA therapeutics demonstrate multi-variant efficacy against SARS-CoV-2
Antiviral Res. 2023 Jul 19:105677. doi: 10.1016/j.antiviral.2023.105677. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSevere Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a respiratory virus that causes COVID-19 disease, with an estimated global mortality of approximately 2%. While global response strategies, which are predominantly reliant on regular vaccinations, have shifted from zero COVID to living with COVID, there is a distinct lack of broad-spectrum direct acting antiviral therapies that maintain efficacy across evolving SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern. This is of most concern for immunocompromised and immunosuppressed ...

Report of the third conference on next-generation sequencing for adventitious virus detection in biologics for humans and animals
Biologicals. 2023 Jul 19;83:101696. doi: 10.1016/j.biologicals.2023.101696. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNext-generation sequencing (NGS) has been proven to address some of the limitations of the current testing methods for adventitious virus detection in biologics. The International Alliance for Biological Standardization (IABS), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines and Healthcare (EDQM) co-organized the "3rd Conference on Next-generation Sequencing for Adventitious Virus Detection in Biologics for Humans and Animals", which was held on September 27-28, 20...
