Intrathecal CSF dynamic measurements in Hydrocephalus associated with MMC – experience of the Republican center of Neurosurgery of Uzbekistan
ConclusionThe implantable shunt systems parameters were chosen before surgery in the surgical management of hydrocephalus in children with MMC are essential. This is important in order to prevent under or over drainage states, CSF leakage from the MMC sac. Management of hydrocephalus should be performed by considering MMC affecting craniospinal balance.

Inpatient healthcare burden and variables influencing hydrocephalus-related admissions across the lifespan
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study to quantify the patient demographics and cost of hydrocephalus shunt-related admissions across the entire age spectrum. Shunt-related admissions cost the US more than $2.06 billion dollars per year and represent only a fraction of the total cost of hydrocephalus care.PMID:36681977 | DOI:10.3171/2022.10.JNS22330

Cost-effectiveness analysis of shunt surgery for idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus based on the SINPHONI and SINPHONI-2 trials
ConclusionsBecause the total cost for iNPH patients will show a positive return on investment within 2 years, shunt surgery for iNPH is a cost-effective treatment and therefore recommended. The SINPHONI-2 study was registered with the University Hospital Medical Information Network Clinical Trials registry: UMIN000002730)SINPHONI was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, no. NCT00221091.

Seeing Phoenix
It seems like people have been looking at our son Phoenix — without seeing him, without talking to him — since before he was born. When I was pregnant and the ultrasound showed severe spina bifida and kyphosis (an excessive forward curve in his spine), the specialist told us he had never seen a spine like Phoenix’s. He wasn’t sure how it could be treated and recommended terminating my pregnancy. My husband Mike and I chose not to. Phoenix was born on June 29, 2009, with a lesion at the base of his spine. His spinal cord and nerves were exposed, so his first surgery was a skin graft to cover the lesion. On top of sp...

Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus Overshadowed by Traumatic and Degenerative Spinal Diseases: A New Assessment Proposal
CONCLUSION: Every unnecessary operation carries serious risks that may threaten the life of the patient and decrease the quality of life. These surgeries and instrumentation materials used may also result to additional financial cost. Similarly, long-term use of Parkinson's and dementia medications has a serious economical burden on the insurance systems and is detrimental to the patient's health. Considering all these diagnoses and physiological conditions that can be easily confused with each other, we recommend in this article a new formula to reduce the possibility of misdiagnosis and treatment in patients with walking...
