Time trends over five decades, and recent geographical variation, in rates of childhood squint surgery in England.
CONCLUSIONS: Squint surgery rates have decreased substantially over time. The current wide geographical variation in rates raises questions about whether this scale of variation is clinically warranted, whether it reflects variation in needs for surgery and patient/parental choice, whether it is a result of inequalities in the availability of ophthalmic services, or whether it results from variation between clinicians in clinical decision making about the likely benefits of squint surgery. Keratopigmentation combined with strabismus surgery to restore cosmesis in eyes with disabling corneal scarring and squint.
CONCLUSION: Corneal KTPG combined with strabismus surgery provides good cosmesis for patients with corneal scarring and strabismus with minimal complications. Reoperation rates are relatively high in the short term to accomplish an optimal cosmetic result. PMID: 31527061 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Delayed Hydrocephalus and Perianeurysmal Cyst Formation After Stent-Assisted Coil Embolization of a Large, Unruptured Basilar Apex Aneurysm: A Case Report and Literature Review
ConclusionsClinicians should be aware that worsening or new neuro-ophthalmic findings may be the presenting sign of postembolization hydrocephalus or perianeurysmal cyst formation.

Colour vision abnormality as the only manifestation of normal pressure hydrocephalus.
DISCUSSION: Achromatopsia may be the first or only NPH symptom. It may be prudent to ask patients with NPH regarding colour vision. PMID: 28743415 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Handheld spectral domain optical coherence tomography imaging through the undilated pupil in infants born preterm or with hypoxic injury or hydrocephalus
Conclusion: Undilated, handheld SDOCT imaging is a potential alternative method to evaluate the retina and optic nerve in patients with relative contraindication to pharmacological pupil dilation. This approach will enable the study of the eye–brain connection and ocular manifestations of neurologic diseases.

Increased Intracranial Pressure Without Hydrocephalus Associated With Spinal Cord Tumor: Literature Review
Abstract: Spinal cord tumors (SCTs) may rarely cause increased intracranial pressure without hydrocephalus (IICPWH). A review of the English literature published after 1970 revealed 29 cases of IICPWH secondary to SCT. The following data were acquired: demographics, tumor characteristics, ophthalmic and neurological manifestations, and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) features. We summarize the existing literature regarding various theories of pathophysiology, spinal imaging recommendations, and treatment modalities used in managing such patients. Patients with papilledema who also have neurological signs or symptoms of mye...

Efficacy of Vertical Muscle Transpositions with and without Simultaneous Rectus Muscle Recession for Unilateral Sixth Nerve Palsy.
Conclusions For patients with unilateral sixth nerve palsy, simultaneous medial rectus recession increases the effect of modified vertical rectus muscle surgery according to the Hummelsheim principle. The duration of the palsy is a relevant parameter for the selection of a sole or combined intervention with medial rectus recession. PMID: 29156469 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Outcome of Inferior and Superior Rectus Recession in Graves' Orbitopathy Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: The highest success rate and highest reduction of depression was found in the IR-group. The total duction range remained stable after strabismus surgery (IR-group) or improved (IR-SR-group). Both squint angle and cyclodeviation remained stable during long time follow-up (6-12 months after surgery). PMID: 25836060 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
