How Cuff Size Impacts Blood Pressure Measurement Accuracy – The Study
Conclusion The journey through the nuances of blood pressure measurements unveils a pivotal lesson: individuality matters. The convenience of a one-size-fits-all approach, while appealing, may not stand up to the rigorous demands of health accuracy. Each person’s uniqueness, from their arm size to their health conditions, necessitates a tailored approach, especially when it comes to something as vital as blood pressure readings. Yet, the responsibility doesn’t just lie with the medical professionals. As readers, as individuals, there’s a clarion call for proactivity. Being informed, asking quest...

Globalization and occupation therapy - a continued musing.
I have been talking about the implications of globalization on the occupational therapy profession for quite some time - it started off withblog posts here and then apresentation at OT24VX in 2015.  Then I gave the topic a whole chapter inmy theory textbook in 2019.  Then there were more blog postshereandhere. In sum, I am uncertain if occupational therapy is a unitary global profession, although I now add this caveat:at least as understood in the publications of academics. I add this caveat now because I am uncertain if the things that people in academia write about truly reflects actual practice in oth...

Can Hallucinated AI Help with Patient Engagement?
The following is a guest article by Michelle X. Zhou, Ph.D., Co-Founder and CEO at Juji ChatGPT and similar AI applications have given humankind a new tool. While this new tool is powerful, it may not always be reliable. Hence the term “AI hallucinations” is coined to refer to such unreliable AI performance. Here is an example. I asked ChatGPT, “Who founded Juji“, the AI startup I co-founded. It hallucinated with the following reply: It got several facts wrong including my education. I received my Ph.D. from Columbia University, not Carnegie Mellon University. Moreover, Juji was co-founded by Dr. H...

The Top 10 Health Chatbots
This study from March 2023 reports how an app developed to help patients’ bowel preparation can increase compliance and thus, the number of successful colonoscopies. In some cases, health chatbots are also able to connect patients with clinicians for diagnosis or treatment, but that is one step further down the line. The general idea is that in the future, these talking or texting smart algorithms might become the first contact point for primary care. Patients will not get in touch with physicians or nurses or any medical professional with every one of their health questions but will turn to chatbots first. If th...

The ketogenic diet: a historical perspective and survival consequences
As someone who had an early life in rural Nigeria, I strongly believe that the diet debates are out-of-touch elite pastimes born out of food glut in Western societies. For survival, all living things evolved and adapted to scarcity, and humans have been appropriately described as opportunistic omnivores who would eat whatever is available. How Read more… The ketogenic diet: a historical perspective and survival consequences originally appeared in KevinMD.com.

My Most Intense Psychedelic Journey So Far
I blocked off Friday evening for another magic mushroom journey. For the two experiences last month, I used about 1.5g of dried mushrooms each time. This time I opted to take 4.2g, eating the dried mushrooms plain, starting at 5pm. I trust my intuition regarding how much to take, figuring this much could invite a fairly intense experience. It was actually super intense, way beyond what I experienced with ayahuasca and my two prior mushroom trips. It really started kicking in after about 40 minutes. I put on an eye mask and laid back on the couch while listening to music. It flowed nicely at first with lots of red-orange...
