Do Patients Want WOW or Do They Just Want It to Work Consistently?
This week I’ve been blessed to be able to attend the Qualtrics X4 conference focused on experience management.  This user conference brings together Chief Experience Officers from multiple industries with healthcare playing a major part. (Side Note: Colin is covering the event from a marketing and patient experience perspective on HITMC as well)  The event is particularly interesting because their product literally forces us to listen to patients and employees.  Just that simple mindset shift means you have different conversations. A great example of this was shared by Jeff Logan, VP, Patient + Market Experience a...

AI in Healthcare: A Great Add-on, Not a Replacement
There has been this huge rush to implement AI wherever it can be added. And while nothing is wrong with this, it’s important that we don’t loose sight of AI being a tool and not a replacement. There are so many great things that AI can do, such as data gathering, increased pattern recognition, etc. However, it cannot fully nor successfully replace a human. A human touch is very much still needed, not only to get the AI to function as it should but in order for patients to feel comfortable. So instead of looking for one or the other, it’s important to look for a balance. For a closer look at this balance w...

More on Extracellular Vesicles in Aging, and as a Treatment for Age-Related Conditions
The review paper here might be compared with a very similar paper noted a few days ago. Any discussion of extracellular vesicles is essentially a discussion of cell signaling in general. Extracellular vesicles are membrane wrapped packages of signaling molecules that carry a sizable fraction of all of the varied signaling molecules that pass between cells. Cell signaling changes with age because cell behavior changes with age, and thus this is a vast topic, and hard to do more than touch on summary points in a single paper. It is perhaps the case that more attention is being given to extracellular vesicles these days becau...

Scene IIIThe man is working on an abstract poem. He isn ’t sure what it means yet. He’s stuck. The woman is reading a recipe she found online for chicken cacciatore. She realizes she is missing one of the ingredients. But she can’t figure out which one. It will take a process of elimination, trialing the various combinations. Before starting this a rduous gauntlet of tasting, she decides to finish a puzzle she had started in the morning. None of the pieces fit. Nevertheless these are the pieces that were in the box. There are no others. She makes surprisingly efficient progress. A picture emerges from the edges...

Banned From TikTok in Under 48 Hours
On Wednesday I attended a one-day workshop on TikTok led by my Transformational Leadership Council friend Raymond Aaron. I had never used TikTok before, and this seemed like a fun opportunity to lean in and explore divergently. Raymond has 56K+ TikTok followers, and I had zero, so I was happy to learn from him. My intention was to try it out with an open mind. The night before the workshop, I downloaded the TikTok app for the first time and created my account. I very much enjoyed Raymond’s workshop since it was very hands-on. He got us posting our first videos quickly and helped us make improvements as we figured ...

Near the end of 2022, we dreamed as an #HITsm community about what would come from the fall conference season. We anticipated great ...

Op Note XXXVII didn ’t have a choice.  One of those stem to stern incisions. All of her spilled right out. The assistant ballasted escaping guts while I suctioned out all the blood. Had to inspect every square inch. The things we saw that day. Whoo boy. At least I ’ve never seen anything like that. Not kidding. Shredded from the inside like a scythe. Couple cans of spilled paint candy caning together in spiraling maroon/purple swirls. Had to patch every hole. Cut out the unsalvageable. Held pressure on all the rest. The next day she was somehow doing better . Extubated. But in a bad way. Basically just a hea...
