Effect of Ketamine on Rumination in Treatment-Resistant Depressive Patients
Conclusions Our preliminary data suggest that a single injection of ketamine 0.5 mg/kg can be efficacious in reducing rumination in TRD patients but rumination does not seem to be a useful clinical predictor of response to ketamine. Larger studies are necessary to confirm these results.

Adverse psychiatric effects of drugs prescribed for physical illness
Psychiatric adverse drug reactions (ADRs) have been reported with a diverse range of medicines used to treat physical illness. Whereas some are mild (e.g. transient sleep disturbances), others are severe (e.g. psychosis) and warrant discontinuation of the suspected causal agents. Some reactions are predictable, while others are unpredictable. The mechanism by which they are mediated is often unclear. It is essential that serious psychiatric ADRs observed during routine clinical practice in the UK are reported via the Yellow Card reporting scheme as relatively uncommon ADRs may only be detected through post-marketing survei...

Sex-specific mechanisms of tolerance for the cannabinoid agonists CP55,940 and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol ( Δ9-THC)
ConclusionsOur results suggest that disruption of the GRK/ βarrestin2 pathway of desensitization alters tolerance to Δ9-THC but not CP55,940 in male but not female mice. As tolerance to Δ9-THC appears to develop differently in males and females, sex should be considered when assessing the therapeutic potential and dependence liability of cannabinoids.

The discounting of death: Probability discounting of heroin use by fatal overdose likelihood and drug purity.
This study evaluated the influence of sample impurity and fatal overdose risk on hypothetical heroin use. Individuals who currently use heroin (n = 69) were recruited online. Participants completed two probability-discounting tasks evaluating the likelihood of using a sample of heroin based on the likelihood of sample impurity and likelihood of fatal overdose, where greater discounting represented reduced use likelihood. Prior to completing the probability-discounting tasks, participants were randomized to read one of four prompts varying by the presence of information on heroin effects and active (e.g., fentanyl) or inert...

A retrospective naturalistic study on the psychopharmacological treatment of schizoaffective disorder
Evidence on the effectiveness of psychopharmacological treatment of schizoaffective disorder is scarce and mostly comes from indirect, nonspecific sources. We carried out a large retrospective study (n = 770) of every other consecutively numbered clinical record with a recorded ICD-10 diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder in the Andalusian Health Service record system. We gathered sociodemographic, drug treatment and clinical outcomes such as improvement, relapses and change over time on DSM-5 psychotic dimensions. We analyzed data to explore associations between drug use and clinical improvement. Antipsychotics were the m...

Assessment of demand for methamphetamine and cigarettes among individuals with methamphetamine use disorder.
Methamphetamine (MA) is a highly addictive stimulant with recent upward trends in prevalence and associated public health problems. Drug demand, as assessed by hypothetical purchasing tasks, has been useful in addictions research and may help our understanding of the factors influencing MA use. However, no studies have assessed MA demand using current models of demand. The purpose of the current study was to assess demand for MA using a hypothetical drug purchasing task. Given high rates of cigarette smoking among MA users, it was of interest also to assess and compare demand for MA relative to cigarettes. Participants con...

Practical Approach to Measuring and Predicting Medication Adherence by Outpatient's SelfReport After More than 10 Years of Research in Psychopharmacology
Neuropsychopharmacol Hung. 2021 Dec 1;23(4):336-346.ABSTRACTSchizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression are associated with nonadherence registered mean figures of around 50%, highlighting the relevance of having simple adherence tools to incorporate into daily clinical practice. For 10 years we have focused on self-report as an assessment method and have studied thousands of outpatients taking thousands of psychiatric medications in three countries. Measurement of treatment adherence during use of polypharmacy is a really complex task as patients could adhere differently to the various medications prescribed, mak...
