The role of inflammation and antioxidant defenses in the cardiotoxicity of doxorubicin in elderly CD-1 male mice
In conclusion, our study demonstrated that in an elderly mouse population, DOX induces cardiac inflammation, autophagy, and apoptosis in the heart in the short term. When kept for a longer period, oxidative-stress-linked pathways remained altered, as well as autophagy markers and tissue damage after DOX treatment, emphasizing the need for continuous post-treatment cardiac monitoring.PMID:37676301 | DOI:10.1007/s00204-023-03586-1

Radiation-Induced Carotid Artery Stenosis: What Nurses Need to Know
This article provides an overview of the incidence, risk factors, detection, surveillance, and management of RI-CAS in cancer survivors.METHODS: A literature search was conducted using PubMed®, Embase®, and Web of Science for articles published from January 2008 through June 2022. Search terms included carotid stenosis, radiation therapy, and cancer survivors. This updated review includes content from older references, which serve as a literature-based foundation for the clinical care of cancer survivors at risk for or diagnosed with RI-CAS.FINDINGS: CAS is a long-term sequela of RT to the neck and can lead to serious co...

Decreased lymphoma-related deaths and improved long-term relative survival with radiotherapy for early-stage diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in the rituximab era
CONCLUSION: RT reduced LRD and improved the long-term net survival in early-stage DLBCL in the rituximab era. Further prospective studies are warranted to assess the specific patient population that would benefit the most from consolidative RT in early-stage DLBCL.PMID:37678622 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109902

Infectious complications among patients receiving ibrutinib for the treatment of hematological malignancies
CONCLUSION: Serious infection and IFI rates are high but similar to those previously described. Risk factors for serious infection included allo-HSCT and corticosteroid use. Targeted antimicrobial prophylaxis should be evaluated in prospective studies in patients on ibrutinib to reduce serious infections and IFI.PMID:37675967 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxad210
