The role of inflammation and antioxidant defenses in the cardiotoxicity of doxorubicin in elderly CD-1 male mice
In conclusion, our study demonstrated that in an elderly mouse population, DOX induces cardiac inflammation, autophagy, and apoptosis in the heart in the short term. When kept for a longer period, oxidative-stress-linked pathways remained altered, as well as autophagy markers and tissue damage after DOX treatment, emphasizing the need for continuous post-treatment cardiac monitoring.PMID:37676301 | DOI:10.1007/s00204-023-03586-1

Radiation-Induced Carotid Artery Stenosis: What Nurses Need to Know
This article provides an overview of the incidence, risk factors, detection, surveillance, and management of RI-CAS in cancer survivors.METHODS: A literature search was conducted using PubMed®, Embase®, and Web of Science for articles published from January 2008 through June 2022. Search terms included carotid stenosis, radiation therapy, and cancer survivors. This updated review includes content from older references, which serve as a literature-based foundation for the clinical care of cancer survivors at risk for or diagnosed with RI-CAS.FINDINGS: CAS is a long-term sequela of RT to the neck and can lead to serious co...

A case of Hodgkin lymphoma-type Richter syndrome presenting as small-intestinal perforation
Int J Hematol. 2023 Sep 6. doi: 10.1007/s12185-023-03655-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHodgkin lymphoma type of Richter syndrome (HL-type RS) is a rare disease that arises in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). HL-type RS lesions can manifest in various sites and are often accompanied by related symptoms. This is the first case report to describe diagnosis of HL-type RS after emergency surgery for gastrointestinal perforation caused by the development of a HL-type RS lesion. A 47-year-old man diagnosed with CLL three years prior began treatment with ibrutinib due to worsening anemia and splenomegaly two mo...

Oncogenic viral DNA related to human breast cancer found on cattle milk and meat
Comp Immunol Microbiol Infect Dis. 2023 Aug 27;101:102053. doi: 10.1016/j.cimid.2023.102053. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBovine leukemia virus (BLV) is a major cause of lymphoma in cattle and has been recently correlated to breast cancer in humans. How and whether BLV might reach humans remains unknown but it could be through cattle-derived milk and meat. Here our aim was to investigate whether BLV DNA could be found in fresh milk and raw meat destined to human consumption and whether anti-BLV antibodies could be detected in human blood at the same geographical region. Milk (n = 36) and meat (n = 54) samples were collect...

The shifting therapeutic paradigm for relapsed/refractory mantle cell lymphoma
Leuk Res. 2023 Sep 1;134:107385. doi: 10.1016/j.leukres.2023.107385. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a heterogeneous subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that has been historically associated with poor 5-year overall survival rates, especially for aggressive variants. Traditional cytotoxic chemotherapy had been a mainstay of therapy for relapsed/refractory (R/R) MCL for many years until the advent of molecularly targeted therapies and cell-based approaches. However, a significant concern is the lack of definitive consensus guidelines for management of R/R MCL. The managerial conundrum partly stems fr...

Phase 1 Dose Escalation and Expansion Study of Golidocitinib, a Highly Selective JAK1 Inhibitor, in Relapsed or Refractory Peripheral T Cell Lymphomas
CONCLUSIONS: In this phase 1 study, golidocitinib demonstrated an acceptable safety profile and encouraging antitumor efficacy in heavily pre-treated patients with r/r PTCLs. These results support the initiation of the multinational pivotal study in patients with r/r PTCLs.PMID:37673210 | DOI:10.1016/j.annonc.2023.08.013
