Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Chagas Disease in the United States: A Multicenter Retrospective Analysis
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2023 Sep 11:tpmd230361. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0361. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChagas disease affects approximately 300,000 patients in the United States. We evaluated a multicenter U.S.-based network to obtain clinical characteristics and outcomes of chronic Chagas disease by disease forms. This was a U.S.-based, multicenter, population-based, retrospective cohort study. We queried TriNetX, a global research network, to identify patients with dual-positive IgG serology for Trypanosoma cruzi. We captured outcomes of interest for up to 5 years. We found 429 patients with evidence of dual-positive T. cr...

Structural and pathophysiological muscle changes up to one year after post-stroke hemiplegia: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Considering these early pathophysiological changes on both the paretic and non-paretic sides, it seems crucial to promptly stimulate central and also peripheral muscular activation after stroke through specific rehabilitation programs focused on the maintenance of muscle capacities associated with neurological recovery or plasticity.PMID:37695037 | DOI:10.23736/S1973-9087.23.07844-9

Comprehensive voxel-wise, tract-based, and network lesion mapping reveals unique architectures of right and left visuospatial neglect
Brain Struct Funct. 2023 Sep 11. doi: 10.1007/s00429-023-02702-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVisuospatial neglect is a common, post-stroke cognitive impairment which is widely considered to be a disconnection syndrome. However, the patterns of disconnectivity associated with visuospatial neglect remain unclear. Here, we had 480 acute stroke survivors [age = 72.8 (SD = 13.3), 44.3% female, 7.5 days post-stroke (SD = 11.3)] undertake routine clinical imaging and standardised visuospatial neglect testing. The data were used to conduct voxel-wise, tract-level, and network-level lesion-mapping analyses aimed at localising th...
