Functional Hypothalamic Amenorrhea and Preclinical Cardiovascular Disease
CONCLUSIONS: These results demonstrate endothelial dysfunction in one out of three young women with FHA. FHA may be a contributor to preclinical CVD, and it is not explained by hypoestrogenemia alone.PMID:37610989 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad498

Accelerated bone loss in older men with severe abdominal aortic calcification - the prospective MINOS study
CONCLUSIONS: Severe AAC is associated with faster bone loss in older men and may contribute to the higher fracture risk observed in this population.PMID:37610245 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad459

Estrogen regulates the transcription of guppy isotocin receptors
Comp Biochem Physiol B Biochem Mol Biol. 2023 Aug 21;269:110895. doi: 10.1016/j.cbpb.2023.110895. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEstrogen can regulate oxytocin receptor expression, which is mediated through estrogen receptors (ESRs) in mammals, initiating parturition. To further study the reproductive physiological process of ovoviviparous teleosts, guppies (Poecilia reticulata) were employed as the research model in the present study to identify the transcriptional regulation of ESRs on isotocin receptors (itrs). Since guppy embryos develop inside the ovary, in the present study, the levels of itrs in the ovarian stroma of...

Evaluation of minimally invasive estrus synchronization protocols in brown brocket deer (Subulo gouazoubira)
This study aimed to evaluate minimally invasive protocols for estrus synchronization in the brown brocket deer (Subulo gouazoubira). Females were submitted to Latin square design, in different treatments. All females received 0.25 mg of estradiol benzoate on the first day of treatment, concomitant with one of the following sources of progesterone: (1) DIP: an intravaginal progesterone releasing device for eight days, (2) MGA1x: once a day (in the morning) oral dose of 1 mg melengestrol acetate for eight days, (3) MGA2x: twice a day (morning and afternoon) oral doses of 0.5 mg of MGA for eight days, (4) P4LA: a single i.m. ...

Reproductive toxicity induced by lead exposure: Effects on gametogenesis and sex steroid signaling in teleost fish
In this study, we determined whether Pb exposure affects gametogenesis, sex steroids, estrogen (ERα and ERβ), and androgen (AR) receptors. Adult specimens of Astyanax bimaculatus were exposed in duplicate to 15, 50, and 100 μg/L of lead acetate, whereas the control group was not exposed. After 28 days of exposure, fish were euthanized and samples of the gonads, liver, and blood were collected for analysis. The results indicated a reduction in the gonadosomatic index as well as the diameters of the vitellogenic follicles and seminiferous tubules in the exposed groups. Morphometry of gametogenesis revealed inhibition of t...

Seasonal changes in endoplasmic reticulum stress and steroidogenesis in the ovary of the wild ground squirrels (Citellus dauricus Brandt)
Gen Comp Endocrinol. 2023 Aug 19;343:114368. doi: 10.1016/j.ygcen.2023.114368. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe development of the follicle is accompanied by steroidogenesis and secretion, the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) requires significant synthesis of relevant proteins to support changes in the follicular microenvironment. The aim of this study was to investigate whether seasonal changes in gonadotropins and ovarian steroid hormones in the wild ground squirrels induce endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and changes in ERS-mediated unfolded protein response (UPR) signaling. There were significant seasonal differences in o...
