Association of Nicotine Cessation Time on the Incidence of Recurrent Incisional Hernia Repair and Postoperative Surgical Site Occurrences
CONCLUSION: Former nicotine users with less than 1 year of nicotine use cessation before surgery exhibited worse outcomes than those with more than a year of cessation or no prior use.PMID:37501283 | DOI:10.1177/00031348231192042

Cross-sectional Use Patterns and Characteristics of Premium Versus Non-Premium Cigar Smokers in the United States, 2010-2019
CONCLUSIONS: Overall, premium cigar smoking is less prevalent than non-premium cigar smoking, especially among populations such as youth, racial/ethnic and sexual minorities, and low socioeconomic individuals. Premium cigar smokers tend to smoke infrequently and initiate cigars later in life compared with non-premium smokers. Study results can inform recommendations for regulating premium cigars.IMPLICATIONS: This study found that between 2010 and 2019, there are meaningful differences in the use patterns and characteristics of past-30-day premium versus non-premium cigar smokers in the United States. Premium cigars compri...

Varenicline enhances recognition memory via α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the medial prefrontal cortex in male mice
Neuropharmacology. 2023 Jul 26:109672. doi: 10.1016/j.neuropharm.2023.109672. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrevious studies postulated that chronic administration of varenicline, a partial and full agonist at α4β2 and α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), respectively, enhances recognition memory. However, whether its acute administration is effective, on which brain region(s) it acts, and in what signaling it is involved, remain unknown. To address these issues, we conducted a novel object recognition test using male C57BL/6J mice, focusing on the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), a brain region associated wit...

Current Market Potential and Prospects of Copper-based Pyridine Derivatives: A Review
Curr Mol Med. 2023 Jul 26. doi: 10.2174/1566524023666230726160056. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNicotine, minodronic acid, nicotinamide (niacin), zolpidem, zolimidine, and other pyridine-based chemicals play vital roles in medicine and biology. Pyridine-containing drugs are widely available on the market to treat a wide range of human ailments. As a result of these advances, pyridine research is continually expanding, and there are now higher expectations for how it may aid in the treatment of numerous ailments. This evaluation incorporates data acquired from sources, like PubMed, to provide a thorough summary of the appr...
