Application Areas of Intermittent Pneumatic Compression in the Prevention of Deep Vein Thrombosis During Dixon Surgery: A Randomized, Controlled Trial
Clin Ther. 2023 Aug 23:S0149-2918(23)00298-9. doi: 10.1016/j.clinthera.2023.07.022. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is common in the lithotomy position after laparoscopic surgery. Intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) plays an important role in DVT prevention. However, few studies have compared the different compression areas of IPC application. It was hypothesized that the location of the compression sleeves could have an impact on the effects of thromboprophylaxis.METHODS: In this randomized, controlled trial performed from August 2020 to March 2021, 164 patients scheduled to undergo ...

Laparoscopic ultrasonography of the liver is feasible and safe in dogs
Am J Vet Res. 2023 Aug 28:1-7. doi: 10.2460/ajvr.23.05.0088. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: To describe the feasibility and technique for performing laparoscopic ultrasound (LUS) of the liver in dogs.ANIMALS: 12 client-owned dogs presenting for elective laparoscopic surgery from January 1, 2022, to October 31, 2022.METHODS: Laparoscopic exploration and LUS of the liver were performed in all dogs. Dogs were positioned in reverse Trendelenburg and laterally rotated to facilitate access to all liver lobes. Time to perform laparoscopic exploration and LUS, ability to visualize and access each liver lobe entirely, and...

A Single-Institution 5-Year Retrospective Analysis of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Staple-Line Reinforcement: Bioabsorbable Mesh Versus Oversewing
Conclusion: This retrospective study showed that there was low risk of bleeding or leak with either technique of staple-line reinforcement and there was no significant difference in SLB or leak rate with bioabsorbable mesh versus oversewing. The use of bioabsorbable mesh was more expensive than oversewing.PMID:37615525 | DOI:10.1089/lap.2022.0551

Crohn's disease-related anal fistula cancer diagnosed by examination under anesthesia: a case report
CONCLUSION: In a long-term CD patient with anorectal lesions, we performed an EUA to diagnose the coexistence of anal fistula cancer at an early stage, and surgical resection was achieved. EUA is effective for the early detection and treatment of CD-related CRC and may contribute to an improved prognosis.PMID:37610526 | DOI:10.1186/s40792-023-01722-8
