Male kidney-specific BMAL1 knockout mice are protected from Potassium-deficient, high salt diet-induced blood pressure increases
Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.1152/ajprenal.00126.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe circadian clock protein BMAL1 is a transcription factor that impacts kidney function, including blood pressure (BP) control. Previously, we showed that male, but not female, kidney-specific cadherin Cre positive BMAL1 knockout mice (KS-BMAL1 KO) exhibit lower BP compared to littermate controls. The goal of this study was to determine the BP phenotype and immune response in male KS-BMAL1 KO in response to a low potassium, high salt diet (LKHS). BP, renal inflammatory markers and immune cells were measured in male mic...

Renal outcomes in older adults with antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody-associated vasculitis: a new prediction model
CONCLUSION: We established a risk-scoring system based on baseline clinical characteristics to predict composite renal outcomes in patients with AAV. Our results suggest that more attention should be paid to older patients with severe renal impairment and active inflammation.PMID:37708862 | DOI:10.1159/000533512

Development and validation of AI-based triage support algorithms for prevention of intradialytic hypotension
CONCLUSIONS: Recurrent symptomatic intradialytic hypotension could be reliably and accurately predicted using routinely collected data during dialysis treatment and standard clinical care. Clinical application of these prediction models would allow for personalized risk-based interventions for preventing and managing intradialytic hypotension.PMID:37707692 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01741-6

Vascular Access-Related Distal Ischemia Requiring Intervention: Frequency, Risk Factors, and Consequences
CONCLUSIONS: Access-related distal ischemia requiring intervention was rare in the current study, and more common in women and patients with peripheral vascular disease or coronary artery disease. In some cases, a subsequent vascular access could be placed with a low likelihood of recurrent distal ischemia.PMID:37707801 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000310
