Predictors of Outcome in Status Epilepticus in the Neuro ICU (P7.172)
Conclusions: Previous studies have shown mortality from SE to be as high as 65[percnt]. While aggressive treatment with anticonvulsants may be associated with improvement in overall mortality (30[percnt] in the present study), patients are treated for long periods of time, experience various medical complications when mortality is still highly associated with anoxia, and a history of epilepsy remains the best predictor of good outcome.Disclosure: Dr. Osias has nothing to disclose. Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy: Recent Advances and a Neuro-Ophthalmological Review
Conclusions: Visual complaints occur in patients with PML and are often the presenting sign. Awareness of this condition is helpful in avoiding unnecessary delays in the diagnosis of PML and management of the underlying condition. Recent guidelines have established criteria for diagnosis of PML in the high-risk patient population and strategies to mitigate the risk in these populations.

Paraneoplastic Syndromes in Neuro-Ophthalmology
Conclusions: In some cases, the visual pathway disturbance precedes a diagnosis of malignancy. Astute observation and selective evaluation and management are critical to establish the correct diagnosis and institute therapeutic approaches that can be sight or life saving.

Immunotherapy for neuro-oncology: the critical rationale for combinatorial therapy
A successful therapeutic paradigm established historically in oncology involves combining agents with potentially complementary mechanisms of antitumor activity into rationally designed regimens. For example, cocktails of cytotoxic agents, which were carefully designed based on mechanisms of action, dose, and scheduling considerations, have led to dramatic improvements in survival including cures for childhood leukemia, Hodgkin's lymphoma, and several other complex cancers. Outcome for glioblastoma, the most common primary malignant CNS cancer, has been more modest, but nonetheless our current standard of care derives from...

Neuro-oncological patients admitted in intensive-care unit: predictive factors and functional outcome
Abstract The prognosis of oncology patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) is considered poor. Our objective was to analyze the characteristics and predictive factors of death in the ICU and functional outcome following ICU treatment for neuro-oncology patients. A retrospective study was conducted on all patients with primary brain tumor admitted to our institutional ICU for medical indications. Predictive impact on the risk of death in the ICU was analyzed as well as the functional status was evaluated prior and following ICU discharge. Seventy-one patients were admitted to the ICU. ICU admission indic...
