An exploration of ex-boarding school adults' attachment styles and substance use behaviours
Attach Hum Dev. 2023 Sep 22:1-15. doi: 10.1080/14616734.2023.2228761. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOur study examines the relationship between boarding school attendance, adult attachment styles, parental bonding, and substance use, aiming was to quantitatively investigate if caregiver deprivation caused by boarding contributes to enduring outcomes in adults. In a sample of 149 adults, measures included AUDIT and DUDIT (substance use), Parental Bonding Instrument (parental care), and Experiences in Close Relationships (adult attachment). Pearson's correlation revealed a significant negative association between age at firs...

Pharmacological inhibition of S6K1 rescues synaptic deficits and attenuates seizures and depression in chronic epileptic rats
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, our data suggest that inhibition of S6K1 attenuates seizures and depression in chronic epileptic rats via the rescue of synaptic structural and functional deficits. Given the wide range of physiological functions of mTOR, inhibition of its effective but relatively simple functional downstream molecules is a promising target for the development of drugs for epilepsy.PMID:37736829 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14475

Melatonin regulates the circadian rhythm to ameliorate postoperative sleep disorder and neurobehavioral abnormalities in aged mice
CONCLUSIONS: Melatonin receptors in SCN, circadian rhythm, and ERK/CREB signaling pathway participate in the pathophysiological processes of PSD and delirium-like behavior. Melatonin intervention could be a potential preventative approach for PSD and delirium.PMID:37736695 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14436

NRF1 mitigates motor dysfunction and dopamine neuron degeneration in mice with Parkinson's disease by promoting GLRX m < sup > 6 < /sup > A methylation through upregulation of METTL3 transcription
CONCLUSION: Conclusively, NRF1 constrained motor dysfunction and dopamine neuron degeneration in MPTP-induced PD mice by activating the METTL3/GLRX axis.PMID:37735974 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14441

Potential risk factors and genetic variants associated with dental caries incidence in Appalachia using genome-wide survival analysis
CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate that household income, home water source, and mother's educational attainment are independent risk factors for dental caries incidence. We nominate several suggestive loci for further investigation.PMID:37736056 | PMC:PMC10509536

Candidate Key Proteins in Tinnitus: A Bioinformatic Study of Synaptic Transmission in Spiral Ganglion Neurons
Cell Mol Neurobiol. 2023 Sep 22. doi: 10.1007/s10571-023-01405-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo study key proteins associated with changes in synaptic transmission in the spiral ganglion in tinnitus, we build three gene lists from the GeneCard database: 1. Perception of sound (PoS), 2. Acoustic stimulation (AcouStim), and 3. Tinnitus (Tin). Enrichment analysis by the DAVID database resulted in similar Gene Ontology (GO) terms for cellular components in all gene lists, reflecting synaptic structures known to be involved in auditory processing. The STRING protein-protein interaction (PPI) network and the Cytoscape data an...

EGR1 Promotes Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome Through Upregulation of SOX9 Expression
This study aimed to investigate the function and mechanism of EGR1 involved in OHSS progression. RNA-sequencing was used to identify differentially expressed genes. In vitro OHSS cell model was induced by treating KGN cells with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). In vivo OHSS model was established in mice. The expression levels of EGR1, SOX1, and VEGF were determined by Quantitative Real-Time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), Western blot, immunofluorescence staining, and immunochemistry assay. The content of VEGF in the culture medium of human granulosa-like tumor cell line (KGN) cells was accessed by the ELISA assay....

Muscle synergies are associated with intermuscular coherence and cortico-synergy coherence in an isometric upper limb task
Exp Brain Res. 2023 Sep 22. doi: 10.1007/s00221-023-06706-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo elucidate the underlying physiological mechanisms of muscle synergies, we investigated long-range functional connectivity by cortico-muscular (CMC), intermuscular (IMC) and cortico-synergy (CSC) coherence. Fourteen healthy participants executed an isometric upper limb task in synergy-tuned directions. Cortical activity was recorded using 32-channel electroencephalography (EEG) and muscle activity using 16-channel electromyography (EMG). Using non-negative matrix factorisation (NMF), we calculated muscle synergies from two differen...

Sleep Spindle Generation Before and After Epilepsy Surgery: A Source Imaging Study in Children with Drug-Resistant Epilepsy
CONCLUSIONS: Our data indicate alterations in the EEG slow spindles after resective epilepsy surgery. Fast spindle generation on the contrary did not change after surgery. Although the study is limited by its retrospective nature, lack of healthy controls, and reduced cortical spatial sampling, our findings suggest a spatial relationship between the slow spindles and the epileptogenic generators.PMID:37737957 | DOI:10.1007/s10548-023-01007-1

Reliability of a Newly Developed Tool to Assess and Classify Work-related Stress (TAWS-16)
CONCLUSIONS: TAWS-16 demonstrated acceptable reliability. It measured stressors, coping abilities, and psychosomatic symptoms associated with work stress. We recommend using TAWS-16 to holistically identify work stress among employees during periodical health check-ups in India.PMID:37735832 | DOI:10.3961/jpmph.23.219
