Pterostilbene ameliorates type-2 diabetes mellitus - Induced depressive-like behavior by mitigating insulin resistance, inflammation and ameliorating HPA axis dysfunction in rat brain
Brain Res. 2023 Jul 20;1817:148494. doi: 10.1016/j.brainres.2023.148494. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOne of the most serious mental health comorbidities associated with diabetes mellitus is depression. The occurrence is almost double in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) compared with the general population. Pterostilbene (PTE), a dimethylated analog of resveratrol, has been reported for significant neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, hypolipidemic, hypoglycaemic and antioxidant effects. However, its effect on diabetes-induced depression-like behavior (DID) has not been studied. The current study aimed at studying the effec...

The mechanism of metformin combined with total flavonoids of Rhizoma Drynariae on ovariectomy-induced osteoporotic rats
In conclusion, Met combined with TFRD ameliorated bone mass in osteoporotic rats through regulating Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and OPG/RANKL/RANK axis.PMID:37473680 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115181

Metformin combined with glucose starvation synergistically suppress triple-negative breast cancer by enhanced unfolded protein response
In conclusion, our study suggests that the synergistic effects of MET and glucose deprivation suppress cell proliferation in TNBC by activating pro-apoptotic molecules through UPRER stress. These findings have potential implications for the anti-tumor application of MET in TNBC.PMID:37473529 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbrc.2023.07.029

Inhibition of protein Kinase C- α and activation of ezrin by < em > Lactobacillus < /em > < em > acidophilus < /em > restore Na < sup > + < /sup > /H < sup > + < /sup > exchange activity and fluid absorption in < em > db/db < /em > mice
In this study, we investigated whether NHE3 expression is altered in type 2 diabetic intestine and the underlying mechanism that dysregulates NHE3. NHE3 expression in the brush border membrane (BBM) of the intestine of diabetic mice and humans was decreased. Protein kinase C (PKC) activation is associated with pathologies of diabetes and immunofluorescence analysis revealed increased BBM PKCα abundance. Inhibition of PKCα increased NHE3 BBM abundance and NHE3-mediated intestinal fluid absorption in db/db mice. Previous studies have shown that Lactobacillus acidophilus (LA) stimulates intestinal ion transporters. LA incre...
