Impact of SARS-CoV-2-Related Hygiene Measures on Community-Acquired Respiratory Virus Infections in Lung Transplant Recipients in Switzerland
Conclusions: We observed a significant decline in CARV infections in the Swiss lung transplant cohort during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. These results suggest a relevant impact of hygiene measures when implemented in the population due to the COVID-19 pandemic on the incidence of CARV infections.PMID:37629763 | PMC:PMC10456728 | DOI:10.3390/medicina59081473

Exploring missed opportunities for influenza vaccination and influenza vaccine co-administration patterns among Italian older adults: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: A sizeable proportion of older adults who received other recommended vaccines during the last influenza season did not receive SIV. This share of missed opportunities, which are subject to some social inequalities, may be addressed by increasing vaccine co-administration rates and implementing tailored health promotion interventions.PMID:37632235 | DOI:10.1093/eurpub/ckad155

Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 Infection Induces the Formation of Tunneling Nanotubes
Microorganisms. 2023 Jul 28;11(8):1916. doi: 10.3390/microorganisms11081916.ABSTRACTHerpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is human specific virus. The intercellular transmission of HSV-1 is essential in its pathogenesis. The tunneling nanotube (TNT), a new mode connecting distant cells, has been found to play an important role in the spread of various viruses like human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and influenza virus. However, whether HSV-1 can be transmitted through TNTs has not been confirmed. The purpose of this study was to clarify this, and further to determine the effect of inhibiting the actin-related protein 2/3 (Ar...
