Mentha pulegium: A Plant With Several Medicinal Properties
Endocr Metab Immune Disord Drug Targets. 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.2174/1871530323666230914103731. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe species Mentha pulegium L. (M. pulegium L.) belongs to the family Lamiaceae, native to Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, and the genus Mentha. It has been traditionally used in food, cosmetics, and medicines. It is a perennial, fragrant, well-liked, herbaceous plant that can grow up to half a meter tall. It is extensively used as a food flavoring, particularly for Moroccan traditional drinks. Chewing mint and M. pulegium, a relaxing and refreshing plant, can be used to treat hiccups and a...

The long-term safety and tolerability of anifrolumab for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus in Japan: TULIP-LTE subgroup analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Anifrolumab 300 mg showed a favourable benefit-risk profile for the long-term treatment of adult patients with moderate to severe SLE from Japan, with safety, tolerability, and efficacy profiles consistent with the overall population.PMID:37706527 | DOI:10.1093/mr/road092

Wastewater Surveillance Data as a Complement to Emergency Department Visit Data for Tracking Incidence of Influenza A and Respiratory Syncytial Virus - Wisconsin, August 2022-March 2023
MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep. 2023 Sep 15;72(37):1005-1009. doi: 10.15585/mmwr.mm7237a2.ABSTRACTWastewater surveillance has been used to assist public health authorities in tracking local transmission of SARS-CoV-2. The usefulness of wastewater surveillance to track community spread of other respiratory pathogens, including influenza virus and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), is less clear. During the 2022-23 respiratory diseases season, concentrations of influenza A virus and RSV in wastewater samples in three major Wisconsin cities were compared with emergency department (ED) visits associated with these pathogens. In all...

The re-emergence of influenza following the COVID-19 pandemic in Victoria, Australia, 2021 to 2022
ConclusionEnhanced testing for respiratory viruses during the COVID-19 pandemic provided a more complete picture of influenza virus transmission compared with previous seasons. Returned international travellers were important drivers of influenza reemergence, as were young adults, a group whose role has previously been under-recognised in the establishment of seasonal influenza epidemics. Targeting interventions, including vaccination, to these groups could reduce future influenza transmission.PMID:37707981 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2023.28.37.2300118

Nucleic Acid Detection through RNA-Guided Protease Activity in Type III-E CRISPR-Cas Systems
Chembiochem. 2023 Sep 14:e202300401. doi: 10.1002/cbic.202300401. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRNA-guided protease activity was recently discovered in the type III-E CRISPR-Cas systems (Craspase), providing a novel platform for engineering a protein probe instead of the commonly used nucleic acid probe in the nucleic acid detection assays. Here, by adapting a fluorescence readout technique using the affinity- and fluorescent protein dual-tagged Csx30 protein substrate, we established an assay monitoring Csx30 cleavage by target ssRNA-activated Craspase. Four Craspase-based nucleic acid detection systems for genes from sev...
