A thiol-Michael approach towards versatile functionalized cyclic titanium-oxo clusters
Chemistry. 2023 Aug 16:e202302352. doi: 10.1002/chem.202302352. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn expanding our research activities of superlattice engineering, designing new giant molecules is the necessary first step. One attempt is to use inorganic transition metal clusters as building blocks. Efficient functionalization of chemically precise transition metal clusters, however, remains a great challenge to material scientists. Herein, we report an efficient thiol-Michael addition approach for the modifications of cyclic titanium-oxo cluster (CTOC). Several advantages, including high efficiency, mild reaction condition, c...

Interleukin-17: a putative novel pharmacological target for pathological pain
Curr Neuropharmacol. 2023 Aug 11. doi: 10.2174/1570159X21666230811142713. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPathological pain imposes a huge burden on the economy and the lives of patients. At pre- sent, drugs used for the treatment of pathological pain have only modest efficacy and are also plagued by adverse effects and risk for misuse and abuse. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms of patho- logical pain is essential for the development of novel analgesics. Several lines of evidence indicate that interleukin-17 (IL-17) is upregulated in rodent models of pathological pain in the periphery and central nervous system. Besid...

COVID-19 Pandemic and Health and Social Inequalities Worldwide: Impact and Response Measures in Greece
CONCLUSIONS: The pandemic has exacerbated long-standing health and socioeconomic inequalities, stressing to governments the need to adopt political strategies that will help address them. Measures have been taken in Greece for labor protection, and unemployment benefits, such as the two-month extension of the subsidy period for the unemployed and the long-term unemployed. Minimum insurance days have also been reduced so that citizens employed in tourism, catering, and other seasonal occupations can receive unemployment benefits.PMID:37581813 | DOI:10.1007/978-3-031-31986-0_38

Integrated and effective management of muck waste under the platform governance mode for a circular economy
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Aug 15. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29242-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs an inevitable part of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, muck has a dreadful environmental impact due its inadequate management by the traditional governance process. This paper therefore focuses on the management of muck generated from C&D waste by utilizing platform governance as an alternative process, which should more effectively contribute to China's circular economy. The study explores the feasibility of providing such a platform governance mode by using Petri net to compare the traditional govern...

Sugarcane-bagasse-ash in enhanced mesophilic Co-digestion for biogas and nutrient recovery: A concept of developing rural circular bioeconomy
This study disclosed the a role of sugar cane bagasse ash (SCBA) in enhancing the bioenergy (biogas) yield and digestate fertility via anaerobic co-digestion (AcoD) of buffalo dung (BD) and vegetable residue (VR) under mesophilic conditions (37 ᴼC). Firstly, an optimal BD/VR ratio (1:3) was determined based on biogas yield by introducing five different BD/VR ratios (1:0, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3, and 0:1) into AcoD systems. Secondly, the biogas yield was increased further by adding SCBA at five different concentrations (0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 wt%). Experimental results disclosed that the 1.5 wt% of SCBA gave the highest cumulative b...
