Tert-Butyl Hydroperoxide induces Ferroptosis of Bone Mesenchymal Stem cells by repressing the Prominin2/BACH1/ROS axis
CONCLUSION: Our findings revealed a mechanism that the prominin2/BACH1/ROS axis participates in BMSCs ferroptosis and the strengthening of this axis is promising to subsist BMSCs after explantation.PMID:37721001 | DOI:10.1152/ajpcell.00224.2023

A Survey on Alveolar Bone Grafting in Indian Cleft Centers
CONCLUSION: The survey showed a serious lack of consensus in the ABG treatment among cleft teams in India and emphasises the need for standardised protocols for the treatment of children with cleft palate. There is an urgent need to develop core outcome set in cleft.PMID:37715652 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231201491

Acquired Hallux Varus Deformity Correction: Pivotless Distraction Technique
We report a 6-year-old neglected case of hallux varus deformity secondary to burn contracture successfully managed by contracture release with pivotless distraction technique using a biplanar distractor and skin grafting with Z-plasty in the same procedure. The deformity was corrected to a lesser extent and with good functional outcomes. The scar was excised and Z-plasty was performed. The medial joint capsule was released. We used gradual differential distraction with monitoring on sequential radiographs. Pain-free flexion of 45° and extension of 40° were achieved and the patient was able to wear shoes after 4 weeks pos...

Total Wrist Arthroplasty With a New Design, 20 Cases With 8-Year Follow-Up
CONCLUSIONS: The new TWA resulted in improved VAS pain scores, PROMs, wrist extension, and hand grip strength. The high frequency of reoperation is a concern, and modification of the implant is needed.TYPE OF STUDY/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic IV.PMID:37715756 | DOI:10.1016/j.jhsa.2023.08.004

Clinical and Diagnostic Characteristics of Calcaneal Apophysitis: A Systematic Review and Thematic Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Calcaneal apophysitis is an overuse disease commonly found in the pediatric population. Educating parents and coaches with regard to its symptomatology, etiology, and treatment is essential to diagnose the condition earlier and provide better outcomes.PMID:37713414 | DOI:10.7547/22-083

Fluoro-edenite non-neoplastic diseases in Biancavilla (Sicily, Italy): pleural plaques and/or pneumoconiosis?
CONCLUSIONS: Asbestosis-like features were substantiated in Biancavilla residents without known occupational exposure to asbestos. Further studies to estimate population respiratory health are required. Experimental studies on the fibrogenic potential of fluoro-edenite are needed.PMID:37712235 | DOI:10.4415/ANN_23_03_03

Features of Knee and Multi-joint Osteoarthritis by Sex and Race/Ethnicity: A Preliminary Analysis in the Johnston County Health Study
CONCLUSION: Preliminary findings in the diverse JoCoHS cohort suggest more lower extremity predominant MJOA in men compared to women. Women and Black participants had more KOA features and more severe symptoms. Hispanic participants appear to have higher pain and symptoms scores despite having fewer structural changes. Studies in diverse populations are needed to understand the burden of OA.PMID:37714542 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-0479

Young Adolescent With Restricted Arm Motion During a Preparticipation Physical Exam
J Prim Care Community Health. 2023 Jan-Dec;14:21501319231201092. doi: 10.1177/21501319231201092.ABSTRACTA healthy 15-year-old right-hand dominant football player presented to the clinic for a preparticipation examination (PPE) with an exam notable for reduced right shoulder range of motion. The patient reported no complaints, including no pain. Upon questioning, he noted a remote non-sports related injury to that shoulder with unremarkable radiographs at that time. Subsequent X-ray imaging showed a bony abnormality thought to be consistent with an osteochondroma. However, advanced imaging identified it as a heterotrophic o...

Hydrogen Transport and Evolution in Ni-MH Batteries by Neutron Imaging
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Sep 15:e202307367. doi: 10.1002/anie.202307367. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEfficiency losses due to side reactions are one of the main challenges in battery development. Despite providing valuable insights, the results of standard analysis on the individual components cannot be simply extrapolated to the full operating system. Therefore, non-destructive, and high resolution approaches that allow the investigation of the full system are desired. Herein, we combined neutron radiography and tomography with electrical monitoring of the state of charge of commercial Ni-mischmetal hydride batterie...

Machine Vision and Image Analysis in Anesthesia: Narrative Review and Future Prospects
This article summarizes recently published works of interest, provides a brief overview of techniques used to create machine vision applications, explains frequently used terms, and discusses challenges the specialty will encounter as we embrace the advantages that this technology may bring to future clinical practice and patient care. As machine vision emerges onto the clinical stage, it is critically important that anesthesiologists are prepared to confidently assess which of these devices are safe, appropriate, and bring added value to patient care.PMID:37712476 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006679
