Effects of Auditory Training in Older Adults
CONCLUSION: Overall, the study has extended the auditory benefit from the LACE training to the typical aging population in terms of improved communication ability, but the effect of training on auditory abilities did not transfer to gains in cognitive abilities.PMID:37656601 | DOI:10.1044/2023_JSLHR-22-00621

Exploring Assumptions of the Bilingual Delay in Children With and Without Developmental Language Disorder
CONCLUSIONS: These results inform researchers and clinicians about the nature of bilingual proficiency in children with and without DLD. Mixed dominance was observed in both groups but with different patterns at lower levels of English exposure in children with and without DLD. We also see that when children's best score is considered, all differences in performance along the bilingual continuum are related to ability not language exposure. This has implications for how to consider children's language test scores in making clinical decisions about bilingual children. Presentation Video: https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.239294...

Narrative Retell Assessment Using "Frog" Stories: A Practice-Based Research Speech-Language Pathology Partnership Exploring Story Equivalency
CONCLUSION: Through a practice-based research partnership, researchers and clinicians worked collaboratively to evaluate a tool, adapt its use, and improve evidence-based practice in a manner that was appropriate and met the needs for the clinical context.PMID:37656063 | DOI:10.1044/2023_LSHSS-22-00124

A Comparison of Sound Production Treatment and Metrical Pacing Therapy for Apraxia of Speech: A Single-Case Experimental Design
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that individuals in the chronic stages of AOS can benefit from both SPT and MPT, corroborating prior research on articulatory kinematic and rate and/or rhythm control treatment approaches. It contributes a comparison of two protocols for AOS with respect to whole word targets, intelligibility, and individual self-report of communicative participation changes. More participants showed a relative advantage of SPT over MPT. One individual reported communicative participation improvement after MPT.SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.23971929.PMID:37656150 | DOI:10.1044/2023_AJSLP-22-00302
