What to report in sellar tumor MRI? A nationwide survey among German pituitary surgeons, radiation oncologists, and endocrinologists
ConclusionTo optimally address the information needs of the interdisciplinary treatment team, MRI reports of sellar masses should primarily focus on the accurate description of tumor location, size, internal structure, and involvement of adjacent anatomic compartments.

Monocyte Count and Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index Score as Predictors of Delayed Cerebral Ischemia after Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
CONCLUSION: Monocyte count at admission and systemic inflammatory index score 3-4 days after rupture are independent predictors of clinical deterioration caused by DCI after aSAH. Peripheral monocytosis may be the primer for the innate immune reaction, and the systemic inflammatory index score at days 3-4 can promptly represent the propagated systemic immune reaction toward DCI.PMID:37734388 | DOI:10.3340/jkns.2023.0182

Transitioning Young Adults with Spina Bifida: Challenges and Paths to Success
And Background: Recent medical advances, including closure of myelomeningocele defects, shunting of hydrocephalus, and focusing on renal preservation have led to many individuals with spina bifida (SB) living into adulthood. This has led to more individuals with SB transitioning their care from pediatric-based to adult-based care models.

Noninvasive assessment of glymphatic dysfunction in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus with diffusion tensor imaging
CONCLUSIONS: The ALPS index, which was significantly decreased in iNPH patients, could serve as a marker of disease severity, both clinically and in terms of neuroimaging. However, it is important to consider the significant influence of biological sex and ventriculomegaly on the ALPS index, which raises the question of whether the ALPS index solely reflects glymphatic function or if it also encompasses other types of injury. Future studies are needed to address potential confounding factors and further validate the ALPS method.PMID:37724800 | DOI:10.3171/2023.6.JNS23260

Giant Internal Carotid Artery Aneurysm of the Cavernous Segment
Acta Neurol Taiwan. 2023 Dec 30;32(4):226-227.ABSTRACTA 70-year-old woman with a history of hypertension developed acute onset of severe tightness headache accompanied by vomiting. Patient reported having right diplopia and occasional and temporary right peripheral facial paralysis for two weeks. Neurological examination revealed only a right squint. Cerebral multi-detector computed tomographic angiography (MD-CTA) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) revealed a giant right internal carotid aneurysm (2.7 cm) at the cavenous segment (Figure 1A, 1B). No abnormalities were noted in subarachnoid spaces and white - grey matter....

Clinical and surgical outcome of endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) and ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) in patients with Long-Standing Overt Ventriculomegaly in Adults (LOVA): a systematic review
DISCUSSION: This meta-analysis confirmed the efficacy of EVT and VPS in symptomatic patients with LOVA, reporting a roughly 84% of postoperative clinical improvement or halt of progression of symptoms. A higher rate of surgical complications was observed in patients treated with VPS compared with patients treated with ETV. In addition, roughly 18% of patients treated with ETV required a further VPS. These findings should be considered when advising LOVA patients regarding the management of hydrocephalus.PMID:37722694 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2023.2257461
