Efficacy of a gluten-free diet in reducing the widespread pain index and symptom severity scale in patients affected by fibromyalgia
CONCLUSIONS: A GFD improved FM symptoms evaluated with WPI and SS. This was confirmed for the first time, also with a rechallenge of the GFD that followed a non-restricted gluten-containing diet.PMID:37721353 | DOI:10.4081/reumatismo.2023.1530

Oxidative stress may be a contributing factor in fibromyalgia patients' pain mechanisms
CONCLUSIONS: Reactive oxygen species have several negative impacts on the human body. As a result of the measurements we analyzed, the relationship between FM and oxidative stress should be studied in terms of disease progression and may help improve the treatment process.PMID:37721351 | DOI:10.4081/reumatismo.2023.1550

The Relationship between Pain Catastrophizing and Cognitive Function in Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain: A Scoping Review
CONCLUSION: Although evidence exists for the relationship between cognitive function and PC, there is a lack of rigorous research to indicate the strength of this relationship and the specific cognitive functions affected. The literature lacks appropriate populations needed to investigate clinically relevant PC and is limited by heterogeneous neuropsychological test batteries. Future research should include populations demonstrating the behaviors being studied, intentional analysis of outcomes, and appropriate cognitive tests.PMID:37719894 | PMC:PMC10505081 | DOI:10.1155/2023/5851450

Quantitative sensory testing, psychological profiles and clinical pain in patients with psoriatic arthritis and hand osteoarthritis experiencing pain of at least moderate intensity
ConclusionPatients with hand-OA and PsA exhibited signs of pain sensitization and a higher degree of psychological distress and disability than pain-free individuals. Patients with cFM had greater TSP, painDETECT score, disability, catastrophizing, and reduced sleep quality, than patients without, indicating greater degree of pain sensitization, psychological burden, and disability.Statement of SignificanceThis paper shows that a significant proportion of patients with hand osteoarthritis and psoriatic arthritis with moderate pain intensity have significantly increased signs of pain sensitization and markers of psychologic...

Nationwide-incidence and trends of fibromyalgia in South Korea: a population-based study
AbstractReports of the incidence of fibromyalgia (FM) in Asia are uncommon. Therefore, this study used nationwide representative data to investigate the age- and sex-specific incidence and annual trends of FM in South Korea. This nationwide population-based study used data from the Korean National Health Claims Database. From 2012 to 2021, patients with FM diagnosed according to the ACR 2010 criteria from the entire Korean population aged 20 –70 years were included in the enrolment database. Age- and sex-specific cumulative and annual incidences were analyzed and incident cases from 2014 to 2021 were included, consideri...

Symptoms of complex pelvic pain: A survey in three cohorts of women
ConclusionMany women in our study reported complex pelvic pain, and overlap with other pain-related conditions, low mental health and past sexual assault was associated with high symptom burden. Those findings support taking a biopsychosocial approach to treating women who present with such complaints.

The effect of myofascial release of the physiological chains on the pain and health status in patients with fibromyalgia, compared to passive muscle stretching and a control group: a randomized controlled clinical trial
CONCLUSION: Preliminary results suggest that the RG possibly showed greater improvements in pain intensity and health status compared to the CG, and possibly greater improvements in pain intensity compared to the SG.PMID:37698013 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2023.2255130
