Nationwide-incidence and trends of fibromyalgia in South Korea: a population-based study
AbstractReports of the incidence of fibromyalgia (FM) in Asia are uncommon. Therefore, this study used nationwide representative data to investigate the age- and sex-specific incidence and annual trends of FM in South Korea. This nationwide population-based study used data from the Korean National Health Claims Database. From 2012 to 2021, patients with FM diagnosed according to the ACR 2010 criteria from the entire Korean population aged 20 –70 years were included in the enrolment database. Age- and sex-specific cumulative and annual incidences were analyzed and incident cases from 2014 to 2021 were included, consideri...

Genetic influence to osteoarthritis versus other rheumatic diseases
ConclusionOA has relatively large heritability as compared to other RMDs. The co-existence of OA and shoulder pain, as well as back pain, was common and could often be explained by genetic factors. Findings imply similar etiologies of OA and several pain conditions.

Anti-satellite glia cell IgG antibodies in fibromyalgia patients are related to symptom severity and to metabolite concentrations in thalamus and rostral anterior cingulate cortex
Brain Behav Immun. 2023 Sep 6:S0889-1591(23)00267-2. doi: 10.1016/j.bbi.2023.09.003. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRecent translational work has shown that fibromyalgia (FM) might be an autoimmune condition with pathogenic mechanisms mediated by a peripheral, pain-inducing action of IgG antibodies binding to satellite glia cells (SGC) in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG). A first clinical assessment of the postulated autoimmunity showed that fibromyalgia subjects (FMS) had elevated levels of antibodies against SGC (termed anti-SGC IgG) compared to healthy controls and that anti-SGC IgG were associated with a more severe diseas...

Expressing emotions, rejection sensitivity, and attachment in patients with fibromyalgia
CONCLUSION: The ability to express emotions is lower and avoidant and anxious attachment rates are higher in fibromyalgia patients.PMID:37674789 | PMC:PMC10478538 | DOI:10.5606/tftrd.2023.11440

Efficacy of home-based transcranial direct current stimulation over the primary motor cortex and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex in the disability due to pain in fibromyalgia: A factorial sham-randomized clinical study
This randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial compared the effectiveness of home-based-(HB) active transcranial direct current stimulation (a-tDCS) over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (l-DLPFC) or primary motor cortex (M1) with their respective sham-(s)-tDCS to determine whether a-tDCS would be more effective than s-tDCS in reducing pain and improving disability due to pain. The study included 102 patients with fibromyalgia aged 30 to 65 years old randomly assigned to one of four tDCS groups using a ratio of 2:1:2:1.

Increased gut permeability and bacterial translocation are associated with fibromyalgia and myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome: implications for disease-related biomarker discovery
ConclusionBiomarkers of intestinal barrier function and inflammation were associated with autonomic dysfunction assessed by COMPASS-31 scores in FM and ME/CFS respectively. Anti-β-LGB antibodies, ZO-1, LPS, and sCD14 may be putative predictors of intestinal barrier dysfunction in these cohorts. Further studies are needed to assess whether these findings are causal and can therefore be applied in clinical practice.
