HPV Seroconversion in HIV-Negative and HIV-Infected MSM
Conclusions: Incident or persistent anal HPV infection was an independent determinant of seroconversion in HIV-negative MSM. Impact: Our data support that seroresponse may vary per anatomic site and that persistent HPV infections are more likely to elicit a detectable humoral immune response. What do Dutch MSM think of preexposure prophylaxis to prevent HIV-infection? A cross-sectional study
Conclusion: The overall intention to use PrEP was relatively low, but higher among high-risk MSM. If PrEP implementation among high-risk MSM in the Netherlands becomes reality, PrEP awareness should be increased and psychosocial determinants that will influence uptake should be addressed.

Hidden from health: structural stigma, sexual orientation concealment, and HIV across 38 countries in the European MSM Internet Survey
Conclusion: Country-level stigma may have historically limited HIV transmission opportunities among MSM, but by restricting MSM's public visibility, it also reduces MSM's ability to access HIV-preventive services, knowledge and precautionary behaviours. These findings suggest that MSM in European countries with high levels of stigma are vulnerable to HIV infection. Although they have less opportunity to identify and contact other MSM, this might change with emerging technologies.

Using a Social Network Strategy to Distribute HIV Self-Test Kits to African American and Latino MSM
This study was conducted in Alameda County, California, a large, urban/suburban county with an HIV epidemic mirroring the national HIV epidemic. Methods: From January 2016 to March 2017, 30 AAMSM, LMSM, and transgender women were trained as peer recruiters and asked to distribute 5 self-test kits to MSM social network members and support those who test positive in linking to care. Testers completed an online survey after their test. We compared peer-distributed HIVST testing outcomes to outcomes from Alameda County's targeted, community-based HIV testing programs using χ2 tests. Results: Peer-distributed HIVST to 14...

HIV intertest interval among MSM in King County, Washington
Conclusions Although MSM in King County appear to be testing at frequent intervals, further efforts are needed to reduce the time that HIV-infected persons are unaware of their status.

Community engagement in sexual health and uptake of HIV testing and syphilis testing among MSM in China: a cross-sectional online survey.
CONCLUSION: HIV and syphilis testing are suboptimal among MSM in China. Community engagement may be useful for promoting testing in China and should be considered in intervention development and delivery. Further research is needed to better understand the role of LMIC community engagement in HIV interventions. PMID: 28406270 [PubMed - in process]

Do Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) in the United States Understand that HIV Serodiscordance is Possible?
CONCLUSIONS: A large proportion of young, internet-using MSM in the United States may not understand that HIV serodiscordance is possible within sexual partnerships. Based on these results, we recommend that CVCT provided to male couples in the United States should include education on HIV serodiscordance. PMID: 24133557 [PubMed]

Development and validation of the HCV-MOSAIC risk score to assist testing for acute hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in HIV-infected men who have sex with men (MSM).
Abstract Current guidelines recommend hepatitis C virus (HCV) testing for HIV-infected men who have sex with men (MSM) with ongoing risk behaviour, without specifying the type of risk behaviour. We developed and validated the HCV-MOSAIC risk score to assist HCV testing in HIV-infected MSM. The risk score consisted of six self-reported risk factors identified using multivariable logistic regression using data from the Dutch MOSAIC study (n = 213, 2009-2013). Area under the ROC curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, post-test-probability-of-disease and diagnostic gain were calculated. The risk score was validate...

Hepatitis A outbreak in HIV-infected MSM and in PrEP-using MSM despite a high level of immunity, Lyon, France, January to June 2017.
Abstract Since 2016, an increase in the number of hepatitis A cases affecting mainly men who have sex with men (MSM) has been reported in low endemic countries in Europe. We calculated the attack rate in Lyon, France, in populations considered at high-risk: HIV-infected MSM and HIV-negative MSM receiving HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). In these populations, high level of immunity did not prevent the outbreak, indicating that vaccination should be reinforced, particularly in younger individuals. PMID: 29208161 [PubMed - in process]

Impact and cost-effectiveness of non-governmental organizations on the HIV epidemic in Ukraine among MSM
Conclusion: MSM-targeted NGOs in Ukraine have prevented considerable HIV infections and are highly cost-effective compared with a willingness-to-pay threshold of 50% of Ukraine's 2018 GDP (US$1548).

Risk Behaviors and Testing History of African American MSM: Implications for Prevention.
CONCLUSION: Results suggest prevention strategies should target risk behaviors rather than orientation and engage older men. Future studies should identify factors associated with risky sexual behaviors for men who never test or test infrequently in order to inform prevention interventions. New Fact Sheet: HIV Among Black MSM
In the United States, gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM)a are disproportionately affected by HIV. Among men who have sex with men (MSM), black/African American MSM are at highest risk of HIV. This fact sheet provides an overview of HIV among black MSM.
