Nitrogen-doped graphene for tetracycline removal via enhancing adsorption and non-radical persulfate activation
Environ Res. 2023 Jul 11:116642. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.116642. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNitrogen-doped graphene (NG) was synthesized via direct thermal annealing treatment. The obtained NG showed outstanding removal ability for tetracycline (TC) ascribed to enhanced adsorption and persulfate activation. The maximum TC adsorption capacity calculated from the Langmuir model of NG was 227.3 mg/g, which was 1.66 times larger than nitrogen-free graphene. The coexistence of NG and persulfate (PS) exhibited complete degradation of TC within 120 min attributed to the successful modification of nitrogen. Further analysis ...

Minocycline improves autism-related behaviors by modulating microglia polarization in a mouse model of autism
Int Immunopharmacol. 2023 Jul 11;122:110594. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2023.110594. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAutism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disorder with few pharmacological treatments. Minocycline, a tetracycline derivative that inhibits microglial activation, has been well-identified with anti-inflammatory properties and neuroprotective effects. A growing body of research suggests that ASD is associated with neuroinflammation, abnormal neurotransmitter levels, and neurogenesis. Thus, we hypothesized that minocycline could improve autism-related behaviors by inhibiting microglia acti...

The performance and mechanism of tetracycline and ammonium removal by Pseudomonas sp. DX-21
Bioresour Technol. 2023 Jul 11:129484. doi: 10.1016/j.biortech.2023.129484. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo remove ammonium and tetracycline (TC) from wastewater, a new strain, DX-21, was isolated and exhibited simultaneous removal ability. The performance of DX-21 in TC removal, its removal mechanism, and the potential toxicities of the degradation products were investigated with genomics, mass spectrometry, density functional theory calculations, quantitative structure-activity relationship analyses, and Escherichia coli exposure experiments. DX-21 exhibited removal of ammonium (9.64 mg·L-1·h-1) via assimilation, and ...

First Identification of  bla  < sub > NDM-1 < /sub >  Producing Escherichia coli ST 9499 Isolated from Musca domestica in the Urban Center of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Curr Microbiol. 2023 Jul 12;80(9):278. doi: 10.1007/s00284-023-03393-y.ABSTRACTThe present study presents phenotypic and molecular characterization of a multidrug-resistant strain of Escherichia coli (Lemef26), belonging to sequence type ST9499 carrying a blaNDM-1 carbapenem resistance gene. The bacterium was isolated from a specimen of Musca domestica, collected in proximity to a hospital in Rio de Janeiro City, Brazil. The strain was identified as E. coli by matrix-assisted laser desorption-ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (Maldi-TOF-MS) and via genotypic analysis (Whole-Genome Sequencing-WGS), followed by phy...

Boosting mineralized organic pollutants by using a sulfur-vacancy CdS photocatalyst
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Jul 11. doi: 10.1039/d3cc02563b. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhotocatalytic mineralization of organic pollutions and simultaneously converting CO2 to CO (tetracycline → CO2 → CO) represents a fascinating way to solve the environmental and energy crisis. This work demonstrates the excellent mineralization and CO2 reduction performance of S-vacancy CdS and reveals the high efficiency of the carbon self-recycling two-in-one photocatalytic system.PMID:37431776 | DOI:10.1039/d3cc02563b

Combining a tetracycline (Tet)-inducible gRNA system and CRISPRa for titratable and timely controlled enhancement of endogenous SHISA3 activation in human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC)
Stem Cell Res. 2023 Jul 5;71:103163. doi: 10.1016/j.scr.2023.103163. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTowards increasing the possibility for temporal control of gene expression using CRISPR activation (a) systems, we generated homozygous human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) lines carrying a doxycycline (dox)-inducible guide(g)-RNA construct targeting the SHISA3 transciptional start site, as proof-of-principle, or a non targeting gRNA as a control. The dox-inducible gRNA cassette was inserted into the human ROSA26 locus in a line with dCas9VPR integrated at the AAVS1 locus (CRISPRa/Tet-iSHISA3). Pluripotency, genomic in...

Simultaneous removal of antibiotics and antibiotic resistant genes using a CeO < sub > 2 < /sub > @CNT electrochemical membrane-NaClO system
In this study, a coupled treatment system was developed using a CeO2 modified carbon nanotube electrochemical membrane and NaClO (denoted as CeO2@CNT-NaClO) to treat simulated water samples containing antibiotics and antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB). As the mass ratio of CeO2 to CNT was 5:7 and the current density was 2.0 mA/cm2, the CeO2@CNT-NaClO system removed 99% of sulfamethoxazole, 4.6 log sul1 genes, and 4.7 log intI1 genes from the sulfonamide-resistance water samples, and removed 98% of tetracycline, 2.0 log tetA genes, and 2.6 log intI1 genes of the tetracycline-resistance water samples. The outstanding perfor...

Chemosphere. 2023 Jul 7:139399. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139399. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the present study, Ni-UiO-66 was synthesized to improve the adsorption efficiency of tetracycline (TC) in wastewater treatment. To this end, nickel doping was performed in the preparation process of UiO-66. The synthesized Ni-UiO-66 was characterized by XRD, SEM and EDS, BET, FTIR, TGA, and XPS for obtaining the lattice structure, surface topography, specific surface area, surface functional groups, and thermostability. More specifically, Ni-UiO-66 has a removal efficiency and adsorption capacity of up to 90% and 120 mg...

Environ Res. 2023 Jul 7:116554. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.116554. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe detection of efficacious and environment-friendly nanomaterials with prominent photocatalytic performance is crucial for the detoxification of antibiotics in wastewater. Herein, a dual-S-scheme Bi5O7I/Cd0.5Zn0.5S/CuO semiconductor was designed and fabricated via a simple approach to degrade tetracycline (TC) and other types of antibiotics under LED illumination. However, Cd0.5Zn0.5S and CuO nanoparticles were decorated on the surface of the Bi5O7I microsphere to create a dual-S-scheme system that stimulates visible-light ut...
