Effects of the coexistence of antibiotics and heavy metals on the fate of antibiotic resistance genes in chicken manure and surrounding soils
This study examined how breeding cycles affect antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in chicken manure and the surrounding topsoils at 20, 50, 100, 200, and 300 m from twelve typical laying hen farms in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of northwest China. Six antibiotics, seven heavy metals, ten mobile genetic elements (MGEs), and microbial community affected the ARGs profile in chicken dung and soil samples. Tetracycline antibiotic residues were prevalent in chicken manure, as were relatively high content of aureomycin during each culture period. Zinc (Zn) content was highest among the seven heavy metals in chicken feces. C...

Oxygen vacancy-rich CeO < sub > 2 < /sub > decorated with Cu < sub > 3 < /sub > BiS < sub > 3 < /sub > nanoparticles: Outstanding visible-light photocatalytic performance towards tetracycline degradation
Chemosphere. 2023 Aug 14:139828. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139828. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRecently, the degradation of antibiotics has attracted a lot of attention all over the world, because the accumulation of these recalcitrant compounds in the environment, and their entry into the food chain have severely affected on human health. Herein, oxygen vacancy-rich CeO2 was decorated with Cu3BiS3 nanoparticles to fabricate Z-scheme CeO2-x/Cu3BiS3 photocatalysts with a simple procedure. Intriguingly, photocatalytic ability of CeO2-x/Cu3BiS3 (30%) nanocomposite in the detoxification of tetracycline hydrochloride, c...

Stimuli-responsive assembly and disassembly of anionic suprasomes with tunable antibacterial activity
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Aug 14. doi: 10.1039/d3cc02729e. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHost-guest complexation-based suprasomes successfully deliver benzimidazolium amphiphiles. β-CD and Zn2+ or an acidic environment act as the stimuli for the assembly and disassembly of suprasomes. The supramolecular nanomedicine developed by encapsulating tetracycline showed strong and tunable antibacterial activity and holds potential for the next-generation vesicle-based drug delivery system.PMID:37578258 | DOI:10.1039/d3cc02729e

The characterisation of antimicrobial resistant < em > Escherichia coli < /em > from dairy calves
Conclusion. Our study identified a high incidence of tetracycline and streptomycin-resistant E. coli in dairy calves, and highlighted the presence of multidrug-resistant strains, emphasising the need for further investigation into potential associations with farm management practices.PMID:37578342 | DOI:10.1099/jmm.0.001742

Prevalence and characterization of Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus argenteus isolated from rice and flour products in Guangdong, China
Int J Food Microbiol. 2023 Aug 6;406:110348. doi: 10.1016/j.ijfoodmicro.2023.110348. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStaphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus argenteus have been implicated in food poisoning outbreaks, and have been found in various types of food products according to our previous study. Rice and flour products are popular and widely consumed around the world. However, limited data are available on the microbial safety of S. aureus in rice and flour products, and S. argenteus has never been reported. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the contamination of S. aureus and S. argenteus in 250 fresh rice and fl...

Construction of urchin-like core-shell Fe/Fe < sub > 2 < /sub > O < sub > 3 < /sub > @UiO-66 hybrid for effective tetracycline reduction and photocatalytic oxidation
Environ Pollut. 2023 Aug 11:122280. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2023.122280. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough Fe/Fe2O3 has potential application compared with nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI), its smooth structure largely limits the catalytic performance. To address this challenge, we innovatively constructed highly efficient composite Fe/Fe2O3@UiO-66 via employing an urchin-like core-shell structure of Fe/Fe2O3 onto UiO-66 through a facile ion exchange precipitation method without inert gas protection. The characterization results show the urchin-like core-shell configuration can extend the life span of Fe0 and produce m...
